Apple (fruit only) pictures from your backyard orchards, please

I started picking my Senshu about a week ago. They seem to be slightly earlier this year. It’s usually about 3 weeks after Gala. They are sweet and very crisp, not as dense as Fuji but similar flavor to Fuji, more aromatic too with a thinner skin.

Sound like my kind of apple

It’s possible yours are HC.

I picked a few of mine today to show you. These are not fully ripe yet. They usually has slight yellow undertone. They ripen in mid Sep here.

Looks like honey crisp to me.

Ashmead’s Kernel. How do I know when ripe? And is it best to eat fresh off the tree or store in the fridge for a month?

First year fruit for Ginger Gold, grafted in 2017 on a wild seedling rootstock. I picked this one as it has a bad spot. Seeds are a bit light in color still, but the taste is sweet, just a bit of tart, and texture is fairly crisp, larger fruit. Some of the other fruits are larger. I’m pretty happy with this one, nice apple! (Slow to oxidize)

Could that be bitter rot?

I noted this spot over a week ago and it has not darkened, and the rot remained fairly shallow. I also noted the perforation of the skin, I’m hoping it’s just damage but can’t say for sure. This is the first year my trees are beginning to fruit, so I have much more to learn. The other fruits are very clean (3 remaining). It’s noted for being susceptible to scab, but Captan kept this tree quite clean this summer despite crazy amounts of rain and humidity.

I saw your spray regimen. You probably will not have a lot to worry about :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I think my timing is off, I’ve noted Cucurlio damage, still much to learn !

Yes, what to spray goes hand in hand with when to spray. I live in a very thickly settled neighborhood so I cannot use certain spray products.

You will need to monitor PC’s flight to time their arrival.

Keep us informed as to how you like the Crunch a Bunch apple. My friend just planted one and curious about how good of an apple it is.

I like Crunch A Bunch. I call it is an early Gold Rush. Crisp with good balance of sweetness and tartness.

I have lots of mature honeycrisp apples, but not fit for eating :frowning: I’m looking forward to the Golden Russet and Goldrush.

It tasted diluted this year. My Gold Rush has been biennial. Fruiting in 2018, 2020 and, hopefully, 2022.

This year Gold Rush managed to produce two clusters of flowers and I keep two fruit.

I have Golden Russet on B9. It sets fruit every year but is not productive.

A lot of drops under our Mother tree, but test apples kept telling me “not yet, not yet, not yet.” Finally, tomorrow, two weeks after you picked yours, I going to pick mine. BRIX of two Mother drops were 12.0 and 13.4.

I would be very interested to hear your report on Mother. The one that I let hang a little longer either dropped or got knocked off. Smelled terrific, by far the most aromatic of our apples so far, but unfortunately had gone mealy. Looks like I’ll need to get a better feel for the timing, which may be a bit tricky because from what I’ve seen so far they seem to have a relatively longer window for ripening but a relatively shorter window for staying good once they get ripe.

A more common one, Gala. Dropped yesterday.
