Apples that taste like euro pears

Hi,

I have read about several varieties of apples that taste like euros pears but curious if the list is more expansive

Hudson’s Golden Gem

I went to Geneva NY and tried an obscure apple at the orchard tour that I really liked and it reminded me of a euro pear, PRI 1346-2; it had a very soft texture (like a ripe euro pear) but tasted like one also

curious if there are others

Thanks

And Suncrisp when eaten around Christmastime.

The few St. Edmund’s russets that I have had seem to become pear like hours after leaving the tree.

I dont know that Hudson’s Golden Gem tastes like a European Pear. Or for that matter any Russet apple tastes like a Euro pear. They all have a much denser and crisper texture.

Regardless Russet apples are among my favorites. HGG and Golden Russet are among my top 10 favorite apples.

I have a HGG… started 2020… developed some fruit spurs last year after summer pruning and limb bending.

Hope to get to try some this fall.

I definitely will get the Three Sisters to have a lunch box pear apple for the kids.

I consider ‘Hunt Russet’ to have a pear like flavor profile. It’s a good storage apple too.

The only apple I’ve grown that confuses people into thinking it’s a pear is Hudson’s Golden Gem. Stinkbugs and wasps also think it’s a pear.

Weren’t the Pearmain varieties named as such due to pear flavor?

Good ole wiki says “pearmain” has 3 possible etymologies: pear-shaped, originating from “Parma,” or hardness and long keeping ability (the most likely per wiki). Glad I looked that up - thanks @AndySmith since I am grafting blue pearmain this spring
