Anyone have a favorite that really works - especially on peaches - but apples, too. Or are separate products for insecticides and fungicides really that much better
We grow peaches and Triazicide and captan mix has worked well for us.
The main issue with spray is the timing. A 1 inch rain resets the clock. many say the first few spray are the most critical.
our spray schedule;
Petal drop, shuck, and every 10 to 14 days. We stop 1 month before harvest
Keep track of your spray dates, between sprays measure rain fall with a rain gage.
If you just have a few trees, then Liqui-Cop is a good choice for winter dormant spray. Otherwise, Kocide plus a surfactant is more cost effective.
For insecticide, choices vary dependent on region and pests.
Best all in one that works for just about everything? Imidan.
BONIDE FRUIT TREE & PLANT GUARD
Effective against brown rot, and many types of plant insects.
I was going to post the same product item to use. I’ve used this one for years and it always does a nice job for me on all my fruit.
I see the label lists this as effective against plum curculio. Has that been your experience? I would be pretty interested in it for that reason. Do you usually make your first application between green tip and bloom? Do you find that you need multiple applications afterward? I see the label says to limit to four applications per year for apples.
There was an old formulation of this. The active ingredients were malathion, carbaryl, and captan. It has been replaced by Captain Jack’s whose active ingredient is neem oil.
No, these were two different products, though the concept is similar. I had both of them at the same time. The one I recommended is much better.
Where do you buy it?
I do not think this new formula would be very good to use for any long term effect, not more than a day. I used the older version and it worked. This new formula is basically all neem oil.
The Bonide Fruit Tree and Plant Guard is basically a watered down cheaper version of the ultra expensive Pristine (with an extra for insect). Same active ingredients, just less of them. I’ll give it a try. It’s affordable and I don’t need to get 10 people to share the cost.
The new formulation’s active ingredients are Lambda-cyhalothrin, Pyraclostrobin, and Boscalid — whatever those are.
