Never seen corn grown through a row cover. Have you done this before? They sure look healthy. I swear by the black woven row covers for my zucchini, eggplants, tomatoes, cabbage and broccoli. I ran drip tube beneath the cover and it seems to stop weeds and prevent the soil from drying out. Well done Naeem!
These will grow fine , I have done it before. This is the best thing I have for weed control. I try to use as much as possible to grow everything. Here are some picture from 2021.
im of the jungle mentality.
Field corn? what about sweet corn?
@mrsg47 … ambrosia is a sweet corn variety.
I used to grow it myself… very good corn flavor and just the right amount of sweetness. Often makes two good ears per stalk.
Not sure if this counts but i have a peach tree in there if u can find it… Walking by the sound of 1000s of bees in this dense thicket of crown vetch. Pollinator Heaven!!
i have crown vetch in my ditches here. the cold kills it off in fall but i comes back vigorously from the roots. bees do love it and it even grows in gravel.
This is ‘gravel’ where it is growing… the peach is on the bank of a creek and the crown vetch flows over that bank into the creek. There are so many bees in it right now that you cannot hear anything else…its almost loud.
I have a new hairy vetch that found my new blackberry patch…and im excited to have it wanting to climb. It also has many bees… but doesnt live long.
Takane soon… bees investigating
hairy vetch is native and common here. it loves to grow in my fertilized soil and compost. if its not in the way i let it grow then pluck it before it seeds. the chics like it. my crown vetch should be flowering here in a few weeks. made the mistake last year to throw some fertilizer in there. it would grow to 18’’ then flop over the other flowers in there. my Takane survived winter again and is about a ft. tall. should flower with the crown vetch.
I had to clean up my jungle, so we shall call this jungle bouquet, purple artichoke, leek flowers in various stages and carrot flowers.
Another bouquet with roses, I had to leave this bouquet outside because I saw a huge spider and lady bug. My daughter isn’t too keen about the huge spider.
I miss sweet corn. It is one of the only crops the French do not grow or eat. Field corn is grown here for animaIs. I am growing some Indian corn in a large pot; I hope to use it for popping.
It is sweet corn growing in our 8x4 field .
really? i thought sweet corn was eaten all over the world. wonder why they dont eat it?
They never quite got over ‘corn is for animals’. It is not part of their cuisine, neither is spicy food.
Bee Balm ‘Jacob Cline’’ is one of my favorites. I bought one plant for $4 and now have many hundreds. Easily propagated by new runners in the spring. Its a hummingbird and wasp magnet. This is natural spread but i have it going in many other places.
My Donut peach, this tree almost died of something 2-3 years ago, sap was oozing out, but I didn’t do anything, just left it alone, I’m so glad this year I see a lot of donut peaches out there.
Red Baron, second year
I used to have a friend saw me grow wax corns in the garden. He said corns are for the horse!
