ha!
First plum harvest of the year. Beauty plum graft not the best but much better than store bought very sweet due to dry weather. Sets way too much after thinning still left a lot. Now picking and thinning at the same time.
Blueberries are just starting to ripen…
Unfortunately I don’t know which is which for most of them, labels/tags got mixed up. Of the ones I planted in 2019, none have fruited until this year and some only have a single cluster like this. They’re either Sunshine Blue, Chandler, Sweetheart, Tiffblue, or Bluecrop. Not that it matters all that much, as long as they grow well and are good tasting!
@wdingus … Tiffblue… blooms early, mid and late… it has extended blooming period… which makes it a good pollinator for most others.
When mine was blooming early this year we got a hard frost 2 nights in a row. It actually toasted my early tiffblue blossoms… but it came back and bloomed more mid and late and has quite a bit of fruit on now. I am usually eating first tiffblue berries late may here… but this year have had none yet… lost the early crop… the mid and late bloom berries are just starting to ripen this year.
wow that’s beautiful! I love red flowers and would love to plant some of this- where could I find seeds, do you think?
Its very worth growing… this guy is pretty good at explaining it… once u get a plant you can save your own seeds and also its easy to get divisions… you can literally buy one plant and have thousands…even sell them if thats your thing.
I will say before the video that mine do really well in an area that has a very thin layer of topsoil…actually its topsoil on top of rocks. It stays pretty moist there as well. I have it near some ditches on other parts of my property as well… so im going to say that it likes moist areas the best.
Jacobs Cline to me is the showiest, and it spreads like crazy… so that is why i like it for my property.
They are for sale now on Ebay/Etsy etc for a fair price… i bought mine at a local farmers market that sells plants. They go for about $5 each… so my patch is worth about $5000
My fig cuttings from Feb/March, some did better than others. I did lose I-258 and Noir de Barbentane, sigh. I finally uppotted them and gave them all some of my compost, hopefully they will grow better stronger.
Walked through the local old-growth forest today. The salmonberries and osoberries are starting to ripen, but both are even less appetizing than usual. They’ll probably improve a bit later in the season, but they do already look attractive at least.
Pretty berries… we don’t have those here.
Tomcot almost there. I have no net over the tree, but have seen no squirrel or bird damage yet.
There are an amazing amount of black raspberries on the plants. Has been one of the easiest producers for large amounts of berries for now and later.
I hope you like figs!
I like them, but I also give away to the people at the senior center. They are relatively easy for SoCal.
Large green tomato, not quite ready for BLT yet, but they were only 4 inches when I left.
Yesterday, I went to the garden center to get some corn and squash plants, they are more expensive than I remember from last year, but I don’t have time to sprout them.
Hurray, first year that I have 4 Asian pears, 20th century, I decided to plant this tree in the ground last year. Good decision.
Nice, what variety is that and is it thornless?
Joan J is the variety and yes it is thornless .
It’s been a stellar year for serviceberries! (or if you prefer saskatoon…juneberry…shadblow…so many names!)
Another Asian pear with more than one fruit, now that’s progress. I almost junk this pear tree but I thought I’d do one more thing to save it, so here it is. It’s a Hosui.
Apricot Bleinheim, not sure when to pick this fruit
And my Donut Peach, I almost junk this tree also, somehow sap was oozing out of the trunk, I really didn’t know what to do, so I did nothing.
