I checked the e-mail: the deep dive test costs $150. There was a caveat that the simple ID test “may” include direct parents in the resulting report.

one of the Orleans reinette I put on last year is just now leafing out.

@HighandDry Neil has grown Orleans Reinette. He probably can tell you more about this apple variety.

My Weeping Santa Rosa plum has never set more than a dozen fruit in the last few years. This year is no exception.

The good news is after last year and almost no branch growth, this year it’s putting on some nice ones.

They certainly are graceful looking.

My Santa Rosa graft first set fruit this year but has been dropping them all, maybe one remains? Maybe it just takes a good amount of maturity to hold fruit. In converse my pluot grafts all holding a few fruits

Mike . . . how many inmates can you house in that prison?

I wish I had something like that. Looks like it will keep out just about everything! - Pom

Knocked off a flavor grenade fruit accidentally today. 2 months since flowering and they are already this big. It’s hard to imagine it will take 5-6 months to finish sizing and ripening them.

They really are quite beautiful.

So that September - October ripening obviously doesn’t tell me how it will go in my climate.

Should be interesting.

Just spotted a variegated specimen in my miners lettuce patch in the front yard:

Maybe I should bag it to catch the seeds and see if it’s inherited. These are my favorite native wild greens here, so it would be neat to have a mostly variegated patch.

Castleton on its second leaf set some fruit. Kenmore didn’t flower this year. It’s definitely self-fertile unless Jplums can pollinate it.

For kicks last summer I planted 5 or 6 ice cream bean seedlings, none larger than 5-6 inches tall. I thought if I mulch them heavy let’s see if anything can survive without protection (I had about 30-40 seedlings and gave away a ton). I was just moving mulch away from several of them today and to my surprise I found this. I guess it isn’t too far fetched that with some protection a mature tree can do ok here, these received no irrigation or protection ever and managed to somehow survive. Plants find a way much of the time

If I could locate a source of Morello cherry that ripens early, I would grow it & distribute it as much as possible, since summer gets so hat here by July that fruit flies are a menace to cherries.

You, sir, have a different cultivar than the only source of it I know of in the States. Does it have a name in the UK? Early Clopmore Morello or the like?

LAST WEEK IT WAS ALL THE STONE FRUIT

This past weekend the apples and pears decided to come to the party. Here are some snapshots of heaven in NY

Unfortunately it’s just labelled as plain ‘Morello’. I’ve never seen any other name / subtype here. Since it was grown by the commercial grower Frank P. Matthews, you could drop them an email (they’re a nice bunch) in case they may have more insight into these? I was at the nursery where I got this tree two years ago just this past week, and the other ‘Morello’ trees were in line with mine, maybe a week or two further along - I’m in a slight valley, and the nursery is on a flat parcel, so that’s typical.

(And I’m not a sir, at least not the last time I checked )
