I think it’s a great idea to focus on fruit like you are. Everytime che comes up I’m never totally happy with our knowledge base. The more that is out there the better it is.
Most of you know if I want something to grow in Kansas I can’t just plant it and hope it survives. I have spent 10 years on failed Che efforts. I’m going back to my old rip and replace strategy. I will start hundreds of Che seeds and breed a better cold hardy, delicious , heavy producing selected Che on its own roots. @tonyOmahaz5 I may need your help old friend. We know the originals were as thorny and hardy as Osage orange. There is not enough diversity amongst the Che fruits.
I was wondering if you guys could help me distinguish between the two different leaf patterns. I started these from seed and they are growing well. I have 4 plants altogether and based off of the website, I have to have a male and a female to get fruit. I know there are self pollinating varieties but I couldn’t find one at the time of year I was looking. Can anyone give me some info on this tree in cold climates? 5b/6a. Should I plant this now or wait until next spring? Will it even flourish in …
