In the pic you can see a few broke branches from the fruit weight.
‘Clark’s Crab’ on mature Malus fusca. Almost the entire ‘Clark’s Crab’ branch mass is now hanging lower than the graft union due to fruit weight.
That’s impressive and wait until next year!
I was out shaking my head earlier. My Clark Crab on Bud-10 is getting out grown by many of this year’s grafts.
Then walking by a lost ID tree I re-potted last week and oh boy the blooming…lol
I’m really going to need to graft pretty high to get it above deer browse when factoring in the amount it will sag. I’m thinking at least 8ft, ideally higher. It would be crazy to see how fast they would attack that in my yard.
I grafted at about eye level. It worked great for getting the graft established. At this point the deer haven’t noticed it yet since it’s surrounded by tall, sharp edged Scirpus microcarpus (a “benefit” from growing in a wet area).
Wow, it seems to love it there!
Thanks a lot! Yes why not? Im on a apple growing area.
It is a great report because the hot weather has agreed with it. The very cold weather seems to also agree with it. Some apples do not do well in other locations. That little Kansas apple is making a name for itself around the world. I can’t wait to see what it does for you next year. It seldom gets over 105F degrees here or below -20F. It can bounce a few more degrees either either way beyond that here.
I didnt got negative temp this winter. My lowest was +1C. I dont see any problem with her. The max untill now was 38C. Last year was like 42C.
That will be one tree you won’t have to protect if it does. Citrus we know is very sensitive.
By the way its sweet? You can eat out of hand or its a true crabapple?
Taste is similar to pink lady. The taste is very balanced and pleasant fresh. It is addictive in fact. It won’t be at its best the first year as no fruit is. It will be good!
Im hasking this because this is the first yellow apple that can enter on snack apple market. I know two red varieties, Rockit from NZ and Alps Otome from Japan. This is a very interesting market!
The taste is very good! You will enjoy it!
This snack apple market is booming in Asia… Just an idea. ![]()
The clarks crabapple will be free to everyone everywhere as God intends. Maybe some day it will be there also for them to enjoy. God has intended it as a gift to make lives better of everyone. Hopefully it will be a great blessing to you. Have a great day!
Yes i understand you dont want to sell it. But on my view it belong to that snack apple area, and its the only yellow apple i know. Usually they are red apples.
