Old fence row my wife asked me not to clear, happy wife, happy life. As you can see it’s a hot mess, but packed with elderberries. I’m unsure the variety but they do well in that honey suckle mess.

Do you make wine? Elderberries make real good wine.

More elderberry pictures, i have no idea the variety but they grow like crazy here. It’s looking like it’s going to be a bumper crop this year 
My hand for perspective. The first person to reply “WANT IT” gets this exact stem as cuttings during dormancy late winter early spring, I will send to you USPS (USA only). All you have to do is remind me and send me your mailing address in private message. Yes cuttings from this exact one.

I’ve been seeing those all over the property, like everywhere, didn’t realize they were elderberries. Funny thing is I was looking at purchasing some plants recently. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on them, they look pretty much exactly like the ones you took photos of. Do you know around what time of the year they ripen?

That’s a serious crop coming in. Elderberry syrup is well worth the effort, especially if you’re getting a bumper harvest like that. Wild fence row types often fruit better than named varieties anyway, less fussed over and more vigorous.

I think you are correct, they seem to do real well just being left alone.
If you want plants different places of your yard, now is a good time for propagating softwood cuttings. Just cut stalks up in 2-3 node pairs, then put them in a pot.
These are some I did about 1 month ago. They have since been put in their own pots.

Its coming along, the inch of rain we got should help. I got it tagged for Ethancactus and I pulled a big ole pokeweed out of there also. I’ll try and remember to post a picture again in a week or so.

I planted a Marge this past week or two. I ordered it from Fedco.
It’s the only variety I have here on the new property. It’s tall enoughish that I could try taking a cutting to root.
Marge doesn’t spread a ton correct?
Is Marge fairly self fertile?

Marge is generally considered self-fertile, so you should get fruit from a single plant. As for spreading, elderberries do sucker but Marge is less aggressive about it than some of the wild types. Should be manageable with occasional trimming around the base.

Photos of my John planted last year.
Photos of a 3 year old (counted the growth of branches), bird planted volunteer (from wild seed) that is self pollinating and with huge flower heads. 3/4 of the flower heads were larger than John. I didn’t even notice this plant till today! lol
