On the plate what is the varieties and were they in ground? @ramv
Also, what other Adriatics do you have to compare this to?
Clockwise – Nordland (top) Crozes, RdB(in center), Osborn Prolific, Peters Honey.
Yes, they are in ground as of this year.
I also have Strawberry Verte, Adriatic JH, Dalmatie and Emerald Strawberry. All still have hard fruit or no fruit.
My in-ground JH Adriatic (?) set figs late of the season. From early October. Still going. This is a 2nd year tree from winter die to ground. So I’m happy with the results. It takes about 101 days to ripen.
Here is the first fig. Later figs are even better. Same strong flavor as other top berry figs.
I’ll have a lot more “Adriatic” figs to compare next year.
Negra d’Adge looks good and very “cakey” like a CdD. Is it? I haven’t heard of this fig before.
Yep. It produced some of the best figs I had in 2021. Some excellent figs this year, too.
And here I was contemplating on putting it on my culling list.
Since this is my first year growing figs, I got these at the local farm, The Kinlands in Riverton, UT today. The checkout lady had no idea what kind they were. The one I had pictured here was alright, nothing to get crazy about.
This is probably as far as Im going to get with my first year Olympian figs. Storm moving in tomorrow with snow Sunday and freezing and below for the foreseeable future.
Eat these every day. They’re good, but something tells me I’ll enjoy my own home grown more when they finally come in.
buying more time to ripen by moving everyone to the hoophouse. not a single major crop fig ripe yet.
here’s hoping
In zone 6B, you should get main crops to ripen. Your trees are still small. Hope for next year.
If you have varieties known to ripen early, make sure you get them to begin warming up earlier next year. They should do well! They definitely look big enough to be producing. Most of mine are only first year and making fruit.
Or here’s “hooping.”
