Exactly! That’s what I was trying to get at. These days, every manufacturer aspires to administering an ecosystem … up until they don’t, of course.
There had been a chance of frost this morning, but it ended up being a milder one in the upper thirties. The next one on the forecast is Nov. 30. Still lots of figs and passionfruit to ripen, so I’m not looking forward to it.
Some years we don’t get frost until Dec. Those are good years.
Last year was mid January for me, I was worried about last night but only down to 40, cold all day tho in the 40s by far the coldest day thus far this fall.
I hate you so much right now
That’s just not fair.
I’m still waiting for last years. We have a frost chance tomorrow morning though. Hopefully not because I’m not getting up earlier to defrost my windows.
That’s mostly due to wind not allowing frost to set on. Rather than having no temperatures that would have allowed it.
No hard frost here yet.
Still getting a few figs, raspberries and sun gold cherry tomatoes.
Our low so far has been around 38-40.
In my 10 day forecast … a few days early next week with lows in the upper 20s.
It is not unusual for it to be 4-5 degrees warmer here than the Nashville stations forecast.

It’s been pretty warm up until this point as well. Lots of rain but no frost so far. My azaelia even started blooming this week with the mild temperatures lately. I think I will definitely be purchasing more azalias, as it’s so nice to see the vibrant pink blooms happening at this time of year.
If we’re lucky we might make it into December without frost. However, Environment Canada is predicting a few nights getting down to freezing at the end of next week. That’s for Victoria mind you, and our temps in the Southern Gulf Islands tend to be slightly warmer than in the capital of BC.
We had our first hard frost last week. Then it got mild again. This was all rain, according to my weather app.
Nothing below 30 here so far, but yesterday/last night we got about an inch of snow, first of the season. Seems early for us. Supposed to drop down in low 20s Thanksgiving weekend, glad we’re getting the propane tank refilled next week.
Our new cat is 6 months old, so he’s never seen snow before, he was quite bewildered by it this morning.
my cat hates snow so much that she’s stays indoors once permanent snow falls. yet we have had other cats not be phased by it at all.
Looks like my place yesterday. It was suppose to be just flurries. When it was done we had snow that was about as much as you got there.
Looks like winter is knowing at the door.
It hit 31 degrees here earlier and i feel bruised all over
lots of broken body parts and random metal plates in my body. I love the cold but i feel like i got rolled by a steamroller and not in a good way
We got our first frost a day ago. The Nashville stations were callng for 22… we got 30F.
Last night they called for 31… we got 38F.
It would be nice to have a little more accuracy in the forecast… it has been off like this for years.
My Town is on a ridge top… and so is my place about 6 miles out of town…
Is there a place online that you can enter your street address and zip and get a more reliable temp forecast ?
It would be nice to know when I need to cover my greens bed… and when I dont. Right now there is a lot of guesswork.
first night at or below 32 degrees reached in the early morning hours of 11/30 for us with a low of 25.7.
then last night it got down to a low of 23.9.
since our first freezing night was so late I didn’t get the figs into our garage yet, and I never had them outside for a night in the low 20s before.
I like them to have a few nights below freezing before storing, but our first ones were quite extreme.
I’ll be getting them in the garage today and hoping there is no damage.
I’ve been saying that also, 5* doesn’t matter for life but it does for some of my plants. So I set my automatic lights to turn on at 40* because the forecast is sometimes off 5-10 degrees, last night was forecasted 38 and it hit 31 as a low but was up to 35 at 6. They are also off on the high as it’s 50* already with the high of 43, so it’s all guess work to me
Cold for a good while here now
Went ahead and covered the Avocados although those temps wouldn’t hurt them, but as @TNHunter said they could be off by 10* so it takes me 5 minutes to be prepared
Why, yes! Yes, there is!
… but, if you’re hoping for A-I levels of precision, you’re out of luck. Gnashtooth is merely a digest of existing National Weather Service (NWS/NOAA) reports and forecasts. Not all products are produced for rural and remote locations. You may need to pick and choose an urban center nearby at the same altitude to receive any forecast at all, let alone one that tracks your temperature exactly.
Your best bet is a backyard weather station you can compare to NWS forecasts. For instance, in my location I have not only an urban heat island but also lake effect. Wind direction makes a difference! NWS reports the official temperature from the airport seven miles inland. On a west wind the heat island is good for another 5°F. On an east wind, which prevails as the land warms up, spring never comes.
I am the developer of Gnashtooth, so I’m very interested in informed and considered critiques.
Not sure if it frosted at my house, but theres frost here on the grass at work. First frost (if any) is usually in early Jan, so its about a month early this year. Its been a cold late November heading into December for us.
We got our 4th frost this morning…
31F low.
4 frosts all between 28F and 31F.
My fig had dropped most of its leaves now.
I will collect cuttings after a few more of these light frosts… and before any serious deep freezes happen.
