Flavor Grenade

@Shibumi
Yes, thanks. I’ve had to scale back quite a bit though. As an alternative I’ve been posting photos on Instagram as fruit.gardener

Glad to hear you’re doing well.

I think I’ll be stalking your photos in the past to see how you built your individual tree ‘cages’ to protect against larger animals.

Looks like a lot of work to make it sturdy and durable while still looking good.

One more shot of my FG fruit. I may remove a few…

I think the tree is mature enough to support all those fruits. FG I have got from growers in Yakima, WA were the size of a Roma tomato which was great for snacking as you walked past the box.

Got home from work today and walked around the yard…

Of the 50 or so flavor grenade fruit I have in my tree, the only one with any blemish is this one.

I don’t see a penetration point, but I’m thinking I should remove it?

I don’t even know if it’s a bug.

That may be a bird peck.Also,I thin mine,to about 3-4 inches apart,so they are not touching each other.

The way it looks I’d say you don’t need to remove any. Including the marked one. It will probably ripen OK.

If it helps with harvest dates, I just bought some Flavor Finale pluots grown in Ramona, California (zone 9b, latitude 33.0414° N) on October 8, 2025.

Wow are they good. I wish I could grow this in Zone 4b.

You might be able to grow them in a pot grafted to Nanking cherry as the rootstock. If you’ve got a slightly warmer spot you can stash the pot for the Winter anyway (how people handle fig trees in <z7a).
