Is splitting one a way to preview ripeness?
im not sure, ive never have a melon split, but iād like to think a melon could split at any stage of ripeness if uneven watering of just by chance
watermelons can be eaten at any stage but i dont think they reach their full potential until 6 full weeks this is a general rule of thumb and could be different depending on type
an iām talking about the smaller sized melons some of the larger ones probably need more time
the only part that can not be eaten is the thin outer green rind, the rest of the melon is very nutritious
any may be good for you if it isnāt too dirty
I was actually asking a question about this comment you made. It appeared you were saying YOU were going to split one in half in two weeks? Maybe i took the comment wrong?
oh i meant i would cut one in half so people could see the inside
so people can know for sure what color they will be
Got it. Thatās a great idea. I had never even heard of them until this forum. All I read now is praise for them. Iām very excited to eat one. Iām going to have to find out how to dry and save seeds for next year.
Here is a Ripe one of the WW/Orangeglo crossā¦Whole family just loves it!! me tooā¦Delicous, sweet and juicy! Thanks Mountain Donkeyā¦
Vines looking real healthy
Do you know how any days you left it on the vine?
Sorry Derby I didnāt actually track it. I just left it until the Tendril was completely dead plus 3 days just to be sure and it seems to have worked nicely. I picked 7 this weekend and have 6 more on the vine I am sure will be ready next week. I ate a Whole one this weekend myself as wellā¦
How big are they? About how many lbs?
wow yours turned out way better than mine did, that is a gorgeous melon thank you for growing these
Not sure what they weigh. Sorry I just grow and eat them. I can weigh the biggest one tonight. Hereās a picture of four of them.
Just weighed the biggest one I have right now itās 22 Lbs. EVENā¦I have some more in the field iāll check them when they get ripe. Smallest right now is 16.5 lbsā¦
Even more amazing to me. I just walked through my garden and the WW/OG Vines have another 30 watermelon on them! Crazy but awesome!

There are a ton of watermelon farmers around here. North Floridaā¦ Tons of Strawberries tooā¦
hey guys, i know its been a while but was wondering if anybody had a few of these seeds to spare?
another member here @DeepBlueDustin
was looking to try them out, even if they are f2ās
having given all of these away years ago, i am without any to spare
im sure heād appreciate trying them out if anybody out there in melon land has some they could shoot his way
much appreciated and im glad everyone had a good time growing this cross, alot of your pictures look like your melons turned out better than mine, especially you @dutch-s
i still give a majority of the success of this cross credit to the orangeglo mother
what a delicious melon
it appears watermelon genes have an extensive amount of ways they can express themself regarding breeding across different colors, pretty kool to see a orange melon x white melon makes a yellow
hopefully on the horizon lies japanese icebox types bred within their own color spectrum
like kaho melon x orangeglo
and hime kansen x strawberry watermelon
maybe in the future i will dabble with more white watermelons, sure is kool to think about
anyways thanks again and shoot @DeepBlueDustin a message if any of you have some seeds to spare
much appreciated
Thank you for the shout-out my friend, hopefully someone pops up on these seeds
