Fruit tree seedlings?

Wish it was a different type of mutation, like for huge fruits😁.

Are trifoliate orange that prone to be lacking in chlorophyll? Or am I just a repeat lottery hitter?

This is the third plant that lacks chlorophyll to some degree.

Not sure about trifiolate specifically, but variegation isn’t that uncommon in citrus. Variegated plants can look all white while they are little, their trademark pattern appearing as the plant gets older.

Also, if your seeds are all from the same source/trees/fruits, they will exhibit similar traits. I assume chlorophyll-less-ness would be apart of a recessive trait, and would only appear on plants they dont have a dominant trait over it. Its like a blue-eyed kid from two parents with brown eyes but have the blue-eyed trait. With only 1 kid its rare, but with 100 kids, you’d expect 3 or 4 (probably more).

Did you cut the seed in half? I only see one stem there. That white one looks like a tap root to me.

Actually the seed had two segments, that was one that I broke off. Here is a better example.

Sprouted apple seed in my granny smith. Not gonna grow it out, but I thought it was cool.

Go plant it somewhere

I thought it was a snail and an enormous amoeba.

Also, I thought that Granny Smith were usually picked underripe, but apparently the seed was mature. Cool.

Rootstock, or growing them out to see what you get?

I’m currently thinking rootstock. I heard it can be a good cold resistant rootstock. But it doesn’t dwarf the tree very much if at all.

Grocery store mango seedling for fun/kids project. Rather sad that it’ll end up getting composted - google says mango dont do well as potted house plants.

Bring it outdoor in late May and bring it back inside in late August. It should do Ok . I got one going for 7 years in the past then gave it to a friend that moved to Florida.

Nice! I’ll give it a try. Were you able to keep it reasonably dwarfed using a small size pot? Did you just have it next to a south window, or did you also need to add supplemental light?

I kept it on the south side window. Uppotted to a 5 gallons pot the 2nd year. I toped off the leader in the 4 year to keep it around 4 feet.

Here is an updated picture of the peaches and apples sprouted from seed. I need to get some sticks to support the peaches. They are getting a little leggy.

The pear seedlings all got about 5” tall and then wilted and died. Not sure what happened.

can/did you actually get them to fruit doing this?

Gave it to a friend in Florida. He planted it in ground. He emailed a year ago the tree has flowers yet. The Mango seed was from the Kent variety.
