Fruit trees are selling fast. Is this normal?

I have not followed it, so can’t say for sure. But it looks like fruit trees are selling fast. Is this normal?

I got an email from Fedco and was surprised to see a lot of their trees are already sold out right after I got the email.

It is the general climate of a very erratic current word. People are buying just in case. Pretty good chance for the USD to drop in value just due to Japan and South Korea will be selling T-bills to support their currency. Which crowds a T-bill market where no one is buying our debt now. Which could lead to money printing and higher interest rates. And the rest of the Globe souring in exposure to our Country as well.

It also depends entirely on the tree. Some are more popular than others, some have less stock than others, and some are the benificaries of the latest social media craze. There is some varieties of mangoes and avocadoes we don’t sell in 3 gallons anymore because we can’t keep them in stock if we do. And we are a pickup only store, I can’t imagine how fast some of the more popular but limited supply trees go on the online sites.

Fruit trees have been in demand the last decade. It’s best to order in November. It’s late now to order for spring.

Yup, I order seeds/trees/plants in November too.

Bare root trees sell out fast. If you want options its best to order as soon as inventory is posted, usually in late falll/early winter.

Gotta be on your A game… they sell out quickly. I I finished up ordering orchard plant material, a few weeks ago.

We used to order trees in January, but now it has to be in November. The pandemic really upped people’s desires for growing things themselves.

I believe during Covid people started buying fruit trees and growing vegetables at home. Ever since then I noticed the fruit trees and seeds have been selling out faster than they did prior to when Covid started.

i think its also that climate change has caused people to lose a substantial amount of crop many years. these weird winters of warm period → intense cold snap is killer on young plants

I blame it on this forum—feeding the addiction. We thinks we have enough, then read glowing reports of varieties we are missing out on. Just one more tree. That will be the last. Well, one more.

Haha I definitely blame this forum. I would have bought several trees this year without being on here, but I didn’t realize I wanted a Paradise Sparkling and a Swayzie until people here brought them up.

Yup, I didn’t know that I needed a peach, gooseberry, black currant, apricot, elderberry…. until I found this forum. Ya’ll are enablers.

No kidding!! I was done buying plants until I starting getting enticed by all the cool things other people on here are doing.

Maybe just one more “order”… which could be several trees…. you want to maximize value on those shipping charges.

Yep, definitely this forum. I’ve been following along with the thread about how much land you would own if you had unlimited money. I think some people are probably buying more trees just in case it happens. I think the average answer now is about 500 to 1000 acres. Throwing in a couple of rivers and mountains.
