Black laces flowering are so pretty

Sweet alyssum. I sowed for first time last spring and they didn’t bloom until fall. This all self seeded. Nice little spring pop of color and living mulch around the tomatoes and garlic.

Who says you can’t grow sweet cherries in southern TN ?

We had an unusually dry spring and I had like 2 or 3 fruits that stayed on and ripened.

This is on my Lapins that was started in 2018.

3 cherries in 8 years

I organza bagged that cherry a couple days ago. Picked it and shared it with my wife today.

It was very good.. nice flavor.. sweet and tart.

It would be nice to have more than 1 or 2.

My Chicago Hardy.. I staked and pulled it a week ago. Maxing out the sunshine to each shoot.

Not much to look at for many, but I’m just happy a kiwi vine has made it to my trellis.

Hard to see thru the bag, but Thomcord bunch coloring up nicely

How do your thomcord do? I bought thomcord but they definitely are pretty seedy, at least to me, but I’m not sure i’ve had a truly seedy grape either.

I’ve eaten a few berries that are all purple but probably not fully ripe.

No seeds so far.

Blue flag iris starting to bloom. They’ve done decently well with the drought.

First of the year!

This is a surprise! Gratitude grape planted last April. I was hoping for fruiting based on advice here because it grew so vigorously last year. But, then all the new growth was killed in the 4/21 freeze and I figured no way

Couldn’t resist picking the furthest along Thomcord bunch. It will be sweet-tart at this stage. I’m guessing I have another 10 days or so to fully ripe?

Still, quite pretty

How long since the start of veraison? It can take about 30-40 days from the onset of color before they are fully ripe.

Good to know. It’s only been about 2 weeks since that bunch started color change.

Your time estimate is certainly way longer than the time since my veraison started. Having said that, in my climate I would not be surprised if the overall time is quite a bit less.

I did buy a digital refractometer so I really should be using that to determine when to pick.

Gemini says 19-21 on the brix.

If it’s really hot, it can sometimes slow ripening, so hard to predict. Measuring the brix is by far the best way to know when to pick.
