hey folks. I’m looking for a replacement for round up as I’m seeing new raspberry and strawberry shoots spouting up near the grass line where I’ve been spaying over the last 4 years are now showing herbicide damage. saw a youtube vid. of this green gobbler herbicide. its basically real strong vinegar and a sticker. seems to work great in the video. was wondering if anyone has tried it on here? i would think it would cause acidity problems.
I sprayed vinegar on some weeds once…
It burnt the tops back,
But…
They just regrow
according to their website this stronger vinegar kills to the roots. reg vinegar is 5% and theirs is 20%. i ordered some to give it a try. if it dosent work I’m only out $17.
I worry that it is not hot or dry enough to be effective for you moose, You really want to spray it on a super hot day (90f+) when the weeds need to uptake water (ground is dry). If you do this they work great. I think in some areas it can work really good I have not tried that kind but very familiar with other vinegar+ weed options. I do not think its enough vinegar to cause acidity issues, acetic acid binds and chelates things and goes away in a beneficial way pretty quickly. Most are 30%
Have you looked into earthworm populations after glyphosate? You may be more interested in ever in finding a replacement.
Just be careful handling that stuff in concentrate form. I’d much rather spill roundup on my arm than a concentrated acid…
I use 20% vinegar with some orange oil and soap as a weed killer to spray on plants in the cracks between bricks, concrete, asphalt, etc. Actually this year I got 40% vinegar from amazon and dilute with water to 20%. As mentioned, it works best if you spray it on a hot day when the stuff you want to kill is in direct sun. It is certainly not roundup, but it does a good enough job for what I’m using it for.
It is strong acid though, so as noted above use gloves and glasses, etc. It will not be good for you or your clothes if you get it on you.
i only use it 2xs a summer and just along that grass line. i also use it very sparingly, trying to target individual weeds. i don’t saturate. i think the reason I’m seeing herbicide damage is the hotter , drier than usual weather we are getting. no rain to dilute the stuff so its just staying put and not neutralizing like it should with more rainfall. i don’t particularly like round up or any herbicide but gardening would be impossible without it as we have a lot of very aggressive weeds here because of our wet springs.
