Help confirm it’s a Sweetcrisp blueberry

hi, i wonder if any expert here can help me confirm if this is a Sweetcrisp blueberry? I heard they mislabeled this variety before and they kinda rare, so i hope i didn’t get the wrong Sweetcrisp. Thank you in advance.

I’m sorry but that’s not Sweetcrisp. Sweetcrisp berries are nearly a perfect sphere. And lack those lips on the flower end. I’ll see if I can find a picture of the real deal.

The picture on this listing is the real deal. No assurance the plants are:

I think one of the traits of Sweetcrisp is that it kind of sprawls and is lanky for awhile… as another indicator other than fruitnut’s fruit observation.

I’m going to get a few fruit soon of Kee Crisp. I’m hoping it’s going to be an improved Sweetcrisp. I haven’t been able to find the real Sweetcrisp either. The last ones I bought were bogus.

Thank you for your confirmation. When I receive the plant I already feel concern. I kinda know how the fruit suppose to look like but hope someone can help me confirm that too.

The Kee Crisp thread:

I hope Kee Crisp gonna be easy to find. Seem like good plants are so hard to get :joy:. What can I do with this mislabeled blueberry now, not even sure if my area has enough chill hours for this one!! Where did you get your Kee Crisp from? I don’t live in Florida so can’t get my hand on plants at local Florida nursery so hopefully one of them can ship it.

Honestly, It doesn’t seem to have the lanky shape at all, more like upright??! Probably another kind of highbush ones. :((

Someone reported years ago that they received true to name Sweetcrisp from Hello Organics on Amazon… So likely tissue culture re-sellers… ymmv though.

Thank you, I’ll check that out!!

Maybe fruitnut can confirm via pics.

I got the Kee Crisp shipped in from GA. It’s all laid out in that thread. They’ve probably quit shipping now but said they would again come fall. I’ll post on that thread what I think of the fruit in a week or two. It should be easy to tell if the crunch is there. The other supposedly crunchy types didn’t pan out for me.

I might be wrong, but I think the last batch of bogus Sweetcrisp I got was that seller on Amazon.

I might well be wrong. The post linked above does show real SC.

I have several “real” Sweetcrisp. They were tiny plugs so it took a long time to get big but they are now 4’ tall.

Their relative crispness is enjoyable but I honestly stopped paying much attention to blueberry varieties, there is not enough difference. I put in some new ones this year and just ordered some random varieties at Hartmann’s. Speaking of Hartmann’s they sent great plants and threw in several extras to boot. Nice folks!

Plantanomynous- you’ll know when you pick and eat them. Sweetcrisp are super firm even when fully ripe. Very different texture than any other blueberry I have ever tasted.

I’m shocked to see you write that given how much attention you pay to fruit flavors. I do taste tests for coworkers every year where I bring in a few varieties of my berries and some commercial ones and it’s so fun watching people light up when they try my O’Neals.

Maybe I just have grown the better tasting ones only? I did look at it closely when I bought them. Even the recent ones I bought from Hartmanns were not completely random, I did read all the descriptions and picked the ones where taste came up the most. I guess I should have gotten one where they were not emphasizing taste for a control to see how much it matters

I have an ONeil and it’s in the middle of the pack to me, yet another tasty blueberry.
