Thanks for sharing that info with us. I am going to graft over mine.
I think you are probably right. The one I have is no where near big. I have a photo of one of mine I will post it.
Tarbutton is a versatile little apple on it’s own rights though. A fresh eater that cooks well too. Sort of like Horse in reverse. Horse being a cooker that can be eaten when very ripe.
Here’s the Hollow Log apple size that are on my tree. I was hoping for bigger apples that were described in a another book.
Yeap. Tarbutton. Should taste pretty good though. Allegedly makes the most delicious Apple Jelly on Earth it has been claimed.
it would take a LOT of those tiny apples to make any amount of apple jelly or anything else since they are so tiny. The amount of apples I get off my M111 is not very much at all. Not enough to even fill a small 5 gallon bucket.
That must be why it is so treasured!..lol
Thanks for the pics Mike! Does it have good disease resistance and does it taste good? I don’t mind small apples, i just care about those two things myself.
I always spray my trees so as far as disease resistance they do well when I spray them. The insects loved them this year since I did not spray them at all. Like I mentioned I had planned on taking the tree out but did not do so. Making it my tree to graft onto in the next few years.
They are very crisp and tasty. I would like the apple very much IF it were bigger.
My tree gets overspray from the airblast sprayer when spraying peaches. So no foliar diseases on my young Hollow Log.
