How is your weather? (Part 2)

Sunny and hot, then rain, then sunny and hot etc. Etc. Etc.!

Heavy but short burst of pea sized hail midday yesterday in Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Haven’t had a chance to check for damage.

Didn’t see any around my neighborhood. Only 10 minute shower.

Right around 80F today. Rain tomorrow. and rain Sun…and maybe some tues. ugh.

So hot yesterday the peonies went blown before I could pick a bunch.

My brother/nephew just got back from Rainy Lake (it divides Minnesota/Canada) and said while they were out a few days back he saw something in the water ahead of them and it ended up being a wolf swimming between 2 small islands. 1st time for either of them. Fishing was excellent but they got washed out by that big storm. There was more water in the tent than outside! I hate tent camping in thunderstorms.

Possibility of frost tomorrow night here. Of course, the orchard has Never looked better. 7 var of plums flowering, valiant and eona baby grapes present, lappins cherries in full bloom; U of S sour cherries, s’toons, blueberries, strawberries and gooseberries all blooming. Plus of course all our bedding plants we started inside from tomatoes to watermelon all out.

Will check 4 diff weather sites in morning, can cover some trees with clear garbage bags, thinking heavy clear plastic over some of the garden, 5 gal pails over tomato plants and peppers, etc.

I know you folks further S have to us unbelievable obstacles with bugs and disease. Here, it’s the friggin’ last frost; in AB is was chinooks.
Wish us luck.

Apologies, just venting, thanks.

Definitely feel your frustration. Late May/Early June frosts are upsetting. Lost quite a few things to surprise frosts in late spring. It always seems like a meaningless waste. Supposed to be 38 here, so we should be just fine.

This is the first time we’ve had peppers or tomatoes in the ground before Memorial Day in over a decade. I’m still nervous about having them out there. My Dad’s old rule in southcentral WI (6 hours southeast of here) was never set out tomatoes, peppers, and other frost tender stuff until after Memorial Day. It’s still a good rule IMO.

Good luck everybody, no frost or close to it in our 10 day forecast.

Good luck for sure. Usually here at 6000 ft we are safe after Mothers day. This year we were good about the 7th. But we’ve seen snow for memorial day and even a couple days before fathers day. June 17th was latest snow here I’ve seen in last 30 years. But that wasn’t enough to kill everything.

Snow falling in parts of North Dakota this morning. Raining here. Stronger storms this afternoon.

Line o storms coming thru now.

Showing mid 40Fs here tonite. Nice cool air behind this thing. Too bad the extended looks wet–sat looks great.

I saw a turtle today in the road. Making a run for it.

Got another .7" today. It can stop for 2 weeks now. We’ve easily had 3-4 times the amount of rain this spring than we had all last spring and summer. I’ve got standing water in spots where I haven’t had any for probably close to a decade. I’m happy to get subsoil moisture levels back up.

I ran out to spread some ladiino clover on a food plot I had prepped a couple weeks ago. The skeeters are thick as I’ve seen them mid day. Gonna be a bad bug year…

A major flip from last summer and even early this spring. The marsh that sits in between the north and south sides of town was almost dry and now it’s full. The river has been high for weeks now and looks to go above 10 feet again (which is flood stage). Last summer there was barge traffic issues because of low water on the Mississippi and hopefully this will take care of that. There is no mow May going on and a few lawns are going to need tractors to get it cut back.

Not sure i’ve seen the 8-14 look so warm for most of the country.

Dodged a bullet this year. Normally when we get the last frost it’s heavy overcast and right before dark the skies open and the wind stops. This time the wind carried through the night and it never got below +3C (37f)

Life is good. Today checked the lappins flowering wondering if I should take a make up brush to try polinate and there was a bumble bee working hard.

Every once in awhile the sun shines on a dogs butt. (one of my favorite sayings for when you get luck)

Rain all morning/day…finally quit. Almost 1.5 inches. Nearing 6 inches of rain for the month now. We could use a dry period. More rain tomorrow afternoon/evening.

Some major heat in Florida. Long summer down there.

Heavy rain as this cold front moved thru. 1/2 inch. Finally looks dry for a few days as some Canadian air makes its way into this area. Cool tonite…mid 40Fs. Very wet May.

it rained today finally and may tomorrow. neighboring areas had thunderstorms.

every time I think it’s finally going to be good for melon and cukes to go in we get a day. I put them out a few days ago anyway. one more chill night I think

but again, this year, I keep saying that

43 degree low tonight. Tomatoes are out, some eggplant, and cucumbers have just germinated. I’m not thrilled, but that’s life. I hope it doesn’t stunt things too much. I might drape a tarp over a couple of beds.
