We made the local news, 1.8” of rain here in Cold Brook, NY. The spring orchard pond has grown, but most of the snow is gone.

The West Canada Creek is ready to overflow, but holding so far. There was some ice damming in Feb., but the lower elevations have been snow and ice free for a couple weeks. Our house is just a mile from the orchard, we still have about a foot of snow there. Some interesting thunder storms last night!

theyre predicting 3-5in. of snow tonight so that storm is probably going to pass south of us.

1.2” of rain in the last 24+ hours. 39° this morning while southern New England is again in the warmth and humidity.

We have been firmly in the warm season for a while now but the mornings have at least been in the low 60s F. So getting out in the garden is still bearable for a while longer in the mornings at least.

Just curious, you mentioned your spring orchard pond. Do you have to feed it from a well or water source during the summer. You guys don’t deal with the heat like I do, but during the summer, you don’t have a pond if you don’t have a water source feeding it. Fortunately, I have one, but I use lots of water.

My reference to the “spring orchard pond” is just a bit of humor relating to flooding in my orchard each spring as the snow melts off. The orchard property is bowl shaped with nowhere for melt off to go. I have flooding for a couple weeks each year before the water seeps into the ground. Due to heavy snowfall this past winter and rain this spring, I may have the pond for an extra week this year. So, no, I don’t maintain the pond in summer and the orchard requires no irrigation in our climate. My rows run right through the areas that flood and I’ve seen no ill effects so far.

I’ve had the same weather for about the last four days but I’m not complaining. Start out in the 60s and gets up to 80 but usually very cloudy rain off and on sometimes heavy however it’s been so dry here the rain is very welcome The fishing in my pond has been great. The clouds actually help. Lots of little bluegill up to about 4 inches so the bass are going crazy.

Here in the upper Hudson valley of NY, we were in a deep freeze most of the winter. Things flipped rapidly, becoming quite warm. My Goldrush apple looks like it is getting ready to flower soon. Getting nervous since we do have some upper 20s lows forecast for a few days next week.

Rain here, too. A tornado warning but it doesn;’t look strong enough for anything to come of it.

Wrong about that. We got at least a microburst, possibly a bit of a tornado.

About 4”-5” of fresh snow on the ground. Another 4”-8” coming tonight/tomorrow. 29/15 for temps on Monday.

About inch and a quarter of rain here. Temps were stuck in the 30Fs all day. I’m seeing low 20Fs Monday night. Nothing is blooming…yet. Pattern looks very active. Lots of precip in the extended.

Raining here again. 38F. Ugh. The trees are all wanting to bloom but this weather is putting a stop to that. Sunday will be the only nice day. The grass has turned green.

More rain overnite - then Monday a killing freeze forecast.
