Are trees in bloom around Chicago?
Heavy rain here right now.

Magnolias, forsythias in bloom. My apricots are. They’ll be toast after the freeze Monay morn, if it gets down to 22.
Planting magnolias here is a mistake.
Got hit very badly in Herriman, Utah, zone 7A. It wasn’t even very cold last night. 27.9F at 2:55am, 27.0 at 7:30am. No apricots, no sweet cherries, no Italian prunes, no little Bungo ume fruits, no Satsuma and probably no grapes for us in 2026. No nectarines and no Idaho walnuts. Maybe we will have Balaton cherries, there are many buds and they survived nicely but only if no such disaster occurs later. Sad. We had very warm winter, warm March with more than one week of nearly hot temperatures. Now back to our usual spring weather. Plants and trees were 3-4 weeks ahead of schedule this season.
Rain and thunder here in lower Minnesota. Honeyberries are budding up. Bulbs are poking through the ground. Garlic is up.
my condolences.
I feel your pain. I lost nine of my 22 five-year-old Fruit trees last March due to weather.(a tornado) cleaned up the mess and replanted in September 2025. Let’s face it if you’re growing fruit trees you’re more than a little bit of an optimist there’s next year.
That sucks. Anything that blooms early is always at risk up here. I see a few magnolias planted around here but they aren’t in bloom yet. Now saying 20F here for the low. If the model holds a LOT more rain is coming in the extended.
I guess I can finally stop fretting about drought for a while.
It was a whiteout this morning around 7. It took a good imagination to pick out the centerline of the road for the first 40 minutes or so. Things improved the further south we got. It looks like spring 4 hours south. It’s still winter here.
Yep. Snowed quite a bit in the last 24 hours. Supposed to be down around 12 Tuesday morning. May start to get up in the 40s after Wednesday. Have been watching pine and evening grossbeaks at the bird feeder for the last month. Helps make up for the lack of spring somewhat.
more sleet and freezing rain here. tom. night and mon. nights supposed to get down to 4. 20’s during the day. winter doesnt want to let go this year.
Broke down Friday and turned on the AC for the first time this year, it had been in the mid 80s for several days, and about 81 in the house. I can tolerate the heat more than my wife, so we turned it on.
But it’s cooler today, in the 50s, and supposed to be near freezing Tuesday night. Peaches are past bloom, and apples are in full bloom. Should be okay for the next ten days after that.
We have been (and still are) in a pretty bad drought but we got some really good rain finally this evening. 1.15” at my house. High chances for storms every day this week too. Hopefully the forecast comes to fruition and we catch up a bit.
Nice sunny day in the 50Fs with rain this evening as colder air works in. 40Fs the next 2 and warmer late week and wet. Still showing 19F Tues morning-gross.
The sun feels like April but the wind feels like January. Gusty winds all after noon. Mostly sunshine. Temps are going to plummet when we lose the sun. These windy days are getting annoying.
11 this morning. At least it’s above zero…
A solid shot of snow on the way. This will replace what melted so far this spring. We were down to 1-2ft of snow remaining in non-drifted areas. This will be a fresh 12”+ on top.
Looks like 23F here. Sparta was 11F and Black River was 10F. Very impressive with no snow on the ground. Looks like the cold is done now.
5 here. Supposed to be over 60 on Sunday.
