Hybrid persimmon 'Dar Sofiyivky'

If long and pointy, likely the incorrect one. If more rounded and kaki-esque, likely the right one. At this point after visiting @OckooMicrofarm yesterday and seeing his mature incorrect tree, I’m pretty sure mine is the wrong one.

Ryan, thanks for sharing that! Just for kicks, what about this type of leaf?

I bet that was fun to see his collection of trees!

I recall he had fruit growing on his incorrect tree, did you happen to see or hear if it had ripened, and if so is it any good? I suspect there are many of us who need to decide whether or not to graft over our faux sofi’s.

I’m pretty sure that’s not the right one

Very interesting though, I haven’t seen any like that on my trees yet.

I saw at least one fruit on it, I should have taken a picture. He said it was a decent tasting fruit, similar to a typical virginiana. It was a more mature tree and definitely had virginiana type leaves. The fruit size is definitely larger than the wild types I’ve foraged but maybe in line with the Yates I also sampled while there?

Hello!
Gift Sofievki, Mykolaiv, Ukraine. My phone distorted the image, adding brightness to the fruit.

Very nice clean looking super loaded fruits. Strong work :muscle:.

Thank you very much. The persimmon tree with its harvest looks very beautiful.

That’s amazing, those branches are absolutely loaded! Is this typical for Dar Sofiyivki? Please say yes.

Hello!
I think this is indeed typical for this variety. Last year, this tree also had a heavy fruit load, and this season the load has increased. From my observations, the branches that are more horizontally positioned bear more weight, although perhaps they assume this position due to the heavy load. The vertically positioned shoots bear fewer fruits.

If you’re interested, I can send you a link to a video about this tree, but the comments are in Russian.

It is quite typical for all persimmons. All my persimmons are so loaded that they will break branches if don’t support and are unlucky.

Hi Tony,
After reading back thru this thread, I am curious as to how your V. Derevyanko compares to the scions you thought were DS? Have you had both varieties long enough to see both fruiting and enough to make a distinction between the two?
I got my DS scions from Darrel 2 years ago and they are growing very well. If you happen to have good quality pics of both you can post or message me, I would like to see them!
Thanks
