If you could only grow 1-2 Apples what would they be and why?

I’m not looking for some pollination compatibility etc, just want to know 2 apples people couldn’t live without whether it’s because they’re so easy to grow, they love the flavor, nostalgia, just any reason. What are 1-2 apples you look forward to eat/use the most.

Arkansas blackings.

Gravenstein would be one of them… Since Gravenstein is a triploid a second pollinator tree would have to be planted. The polllinator tree would probably be a crab apple.

The reason is simply because in my experience the Gravenstein apple tree is the easiest to grow and is the most productive.

Lord Burghley because it is one of the better high flavored long storage apples.

And Mank’s Codlin because it is a sweetish, perfumed, acid cooker that keeps 3 months and can even be picked early at various growth points and used. Meaning you have plenty of time to store/cook/prepare the harvest . And close to harvest it can be eaten fresh.

As a bonus both root by cutting. But thankfully we have sailed way past the 2 limit here…lol

Pink Lady is my first choice. I have several others that are good and some that haven’t produced yet. Pink Lady has also been a consistent producer.

Right now I’d say Goldrush and Redlove Odysso, because they are the ones that produced most of the apples that we ate from last year’s harvest.

Spigold (and Albemarle Pippin if I lived near Charlottesville).

Goldrush and karmijn de sonneville first for storage and flavor and beautiful russetting. Maybe Jonathan also for flavor.

Wickson and Pink Pearl. Just tons of flavor but on opposite ends of the flavor spectrum. I never get tired of them.

Myers Royal Limbertwig for fresh eating and Moyer’s Spice for applesauce. Sorry but would have to have a third one, Ewalt for a keeper.

Ashmead’s Kernel, Hooples’ Antique Gold. Or maybe White Winter Pearmain.

Goldrush may be a better pick than Ashmead’s because it’s more productive and hits the explosively sweet/sour notes for me.

I imagine this will evolve considerably as my young trees start bearing fruit. There are many I have only read about and am eager to try

Is Ewalt the same as “Freedom?”

If I was doing my apple tree buying again i know that I would try Century Farms Orchards. I’ve always wondered about their Limbertwigs. Maybe Kinard’s Choice too. Price would be a much less concern. Ha, back then I was even learning how to T-bud graft to save money.

You have good taste, and like sugar.
