"immediate" rootstock planting necessary?

My scions are budding (and opening) on my rootstocks and it may be a few days before I get the fence put up. Can I leave the rootstocks in the wood-shavings until next week, 3 or 4 more days,or do I need to put them in pots temporarily until I am able to get the fence up? (I have read they need to be planted “immediately,” once the buds begin to break open.) Thank you!

Roger, I have my grafts in tubs with potting soil (over 100 in each tub). I can water when necessary and I put them out to catch sun on occasion. They’re starting to bud out. I won’t plant them for another week due to the weather forecast, but they’d probably be fine if I did. You’d probably be fine leaving yours for 3-4 days before planting.

I put mine in a tub with pine shavings (hamster bedding) mixed with potting soil
No problem.

Yes @AndySmith, I have 31 in a big tub. Maybe I should replace the wood-shavings with potting soil and keep them in the tub (?)

When I read a couple “how-to” articles online with writers saying to plant “immediately,” it does make me worry. Common sense, though, would say I’ll be okay another week anyway. And if I replace the wood shavings with potting soil–for sure. Thanks!

Just keep the roots moist and they will be just fine. 3-4 days will be fine. 2 weeks would probably fine.
You don’t need any potting mix added in unless you are planning to keep them in their a long time.

That sounds a lot better than replacing the shavings with potting mix. Thanks, @ribs1. I am gonna just do that, and hope my neighbor gets the auger on his tractor fixed so I can get my fence up sooner rather than later.
