have grape vine beatle before. New pest moved in
Chinese Chestnut… I noticed a lot of new growth a week or so ago, looked good… Today though this, seems like what I’d expect if it had been through a heavy frost or freeze. It certainly wasn’t that though… Any ideas? Looked for Aphids (saw the ladybug so assumed possibly they were present) but none to be found. Not that I’d expect them to cause blackening of the leaves like this anyway… Seems more likely to be fungal or bacterial I think…
It says they are not a major pest, I wonder if they only do slight cosmetic damage? It sounds like their larvae are very beneficial if they help old stumps decompose. From Wikipedia:
Grapevine beetles are common in the north and central United States and eastern Canada, but do relatively little damage to their host plants.

Looks like it could be this one. And the leaf looks like it could be dogbane plant.
Yes, it was on Dogbane beetle. I thought they were Japanese beetles and I threw the ones I saw into my pond for my fish to eat, ooops. So I guess they were right and I was wrong. I guess these beetles only eat the dogbane and not my other fruit trees like the Japanese beetles do. Sorry little dogbane beetles for throwing you in the pond to be eaten.

Well, I found this one sucking on my little grape today .This explains mystery black dots appearing on grape fruits
I think this is another one that I detached from another grape.

Those don’t look like the same insect to me. Actually the first one looks like a ladybug pupa, which would be beneficial. It might have been eating the pest that caused the hole, or maybe that isn’t even a hole and just the goop the ladybug used to anchor itself while pupating.

I got more these babies. I can recognize ladybug baby that is in black color . But I have never noticed ladybug in this stage with orange color. You may be right. These are with other ladybug babies that are more black than orange. Here is the picture of three more.

Yes those are all ladybug pupae I think. That is their “cocoon” before emerging as adults.

Hi, I’m new to tree growing. I’m in Somerville, MA with more or less every conceivable disease around. Is this scab? sunscald? Will moving these trees (following guidelines about moving them bareroot in the winter) likely introduce disease to another area?
These are a pink pearl on M111 (grafted for a local friend, temporarily in the maroon pot, ideally something we could plant in the fall), an Ashmead’s on Bud9 in the growing bag (for me, for an espalier on my porch, because why not), and a wild Vermont apple grafted for my sister (given the diseases here, this might not get transplant under any conditions).
