I went to the local Farmers Market today and one vendor had these Plums(he said they were Pluots),that reminded me of Emerald Beaut Plums with the somewhat crunchy, sweet taste.I thought EB ripened much later though. They probably were grown in Eastern Washington, which gets California type heat, but still it seems kind of early.I went to the SF Bay area last October and they were a predominate Plum in the stands.
Is there a way of holding Plums in cold storage for almost a year and still retain near ripe freshness and quality? Brady
They can’t be held more than about 6 weeks under the best of conditions. And even in my greenhouse they are 2-3 months from being ripe. So those are something else.
Okay thanks, that’s probably what they are.The guy who sells the fruit is like a middleman and sometimes doesn’t know the specifics, but there are times when he has fruit that no one else is carrying. Brady
Emerald Beaut is about to pop a flower or two here. Other buds on the tree are a bit far behind considering all my other plum/pluots/pluerries are in full bloom. I grafted Burgundy plum on to EB for pollination. Last year I got a decent flower set but just 10 fruits. Hopefully, the fourth year in the ground will do the trick!
I do have an Emerald Beaut. This will be the tree’s third year and hopefully there will be some fruit.
I tried to take a picture with my phone but there wasn’t enough light.Maybe tomorrow. Brady
