Thank you, took some cuttings this morning. I’m a couple of zones warmer than you so timing should be similar.
How long to keep a plastic bag over cuttings?
Don’t leave too much leaves on the cuttings and covering them for the whole duration until rooted to keep that humidity inside the bag. Also don’t water-logged them, just keep the soil moist or the cuttings will rot.

Hi tonyOmahaz5,
Thank you so much for the quick and helpful response to my question—it’s really appreciated! I’m new to growing jujubes and still learning a lot.
I’ve attached a picture.
The Li jujube, now 15 days old
Looking forward to learning more from you. Thanks again for your help!!
Is this a pic of the cutting you are trying to root? I believe Tony is rooting greenwood or current years growth, this appears to be a hardwood cutting.
Not to say that this won’t root but it is a different animal. I hope you are successful, good luck.
Yes, I’m trying to root it. I purchased the cutting from Etsy. I’m not sure if it’s greenwood or hardwood—I’m still a newbie when it comes to this kind of thing. Just looking for some help. Thank you!
It’s hardwood that’s a year old or older. Greenwood is green like a lime instead of bark-y.
Maybe someone with more knowledge and experience will chime in, but here are my suggestions.
Keep your cutting in a well-draining mix, maybe add a little sand or pearlite to a potting mix. Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Covering with a clear cup or plastic bag may help.
Using a rooting hormone would also be a good idea.
Keep in a well-lit area but not in direct sunlight.
Bottom heat is advisable with some cuttings but I don’t have enough experience to say if it would help with jujube or not. Good luck.
Chunky,
Thank you so much for the advice! I really appreciate you taking the time to share it. I’ll definitely take your suggestion and give it a try.
Noddykitty,
When I purchased it from Etsy, it was completely dormant—just a bare stick with no leaves or signs of growth. Thank You.
When you got it was it leafed out, or was it dormant? Good luck, it seems happy. I have never tried rooting jujube
Dormant cutting is very hard to root. I tried that route several times but unsuccessful. The energy from the scion will eventually runs out before the roots form then the whole scion with leaves died. I only been able to root fresh green cuttings that have been growing for like a month or so and follow the similar techniques mentioned by Chunky above. I know lots of f Vietnamese folks in Texas and California air layering their jujube without any problems. Once you have a self rooted jujube then you can cut the root and pot it up to make more copies.

Thanks for sharing your experience!
