In the Persimmons 2024 thread, there’s a video of Cliff’s tasting tour. In it he shows Whopper, another Costata x Rossey 2 hybrid. Has anyone ever suggested that Whopper is PVNA?
Edit: Richard’s list of hybrids (above) includes numerous crosses of Costata x Rossey in addition to Kuji Naja, including England’s 10-4, England’s 10-11, and Twin Naja. All these are listed as PCA.
The discussion of Kujinaja led me to revisit Richard’s list. I was reminded that Cliff’s inventory includes >40 supposed hybrids that are crosses of various DV females with a presumably male-flowering Kaki named Hokkaido.
I’m curious – Has anyone used these reported hybrids in further breeding? Rosseyanka, which is a similar but well documented cross of a Kaki female with an unnamed DV male, has been widely used in subsequent breeding. JT-02/Mikkusu has been used in some subsequent breeding but to a smaller extent. So what about Cliff’s hybrids?
I got a few seeds of Honan red x Rossyanka male aka Russian red X Open pollinated from a member on GF. I hoped these seeds are viable for Spring planting.
I’m not sure where to post this but I figured it would fit in here. I found this rare Jerry Lehman talk on youtube. It was posted earlier this year and only like 200 people have viewed it. Really fascinating stuff! Especially the end where he talks about Lotus/Kaki hybrids.
