Multi-grafted pruning

So about 3 weeks ago I planted this 3 on 1 multi-grafted peach/nectarine. Double Delight, Mid-Pride, and Saturn.

Unfortunately Saturn graft only threw out one shoot right above the graft..and it is pointed in the same direction as the Mid-Pride. If later I prune this new branch to a bud facing away from the Mid-Pride I’m afraid it will be an awkward crotch angle later on.

Any ideas? All I can think of is, since this is freshly planted in a raised bed of coco coir, perlitex and raised bed soil mix, I might rotate the tree facing Saturn due south for better sun and see if I have more pruning options for the Mid-Pride to spread the anglesbetween the 3 varieties

I would let the shoot live.

Notch here above this bud in blue and apply keiki paste

@ramv had success with keiki paste
Other tree training techniques: spreading, bending, notching, girdling, etc - Reference - Growing Fruit

Notching above encourages the bud to develop into a branch, below into a fruiting bud.
How many of you use the “notching” technique to encourage fruiting - General Fruit Growing - Growing Fruit

If you get that bud developed into a branch. You can do a green wood T but graft to move it to another part of the tree.

To be clear, are you saying to try to get the Mid-Pride to branch in the right direction then graft late summer from the Saturn to that Mid-Pride branch if it develops?

Had not thought of that. I was stuck thinking I needed to have all 3 varieties on the rootstock, which of course I don’t. It might affect the vigor but that is more manageable

you have saturn in the image twice. I think there are two branches in green.
I was saying bark graft the smaller to the blue spot in the fall.

This is just what I would try, but Im sure others have better advice. but do use compounds or notching to stimulate buds where you want them.

Ah. No the Saturn wood is the small one in red at the bottom.

I ordered kieki paste and will try to get a branch headed in the right direction from the Mid-Pride , Double Delight, or the rootstock wood as shown in yellow…. Then graft the Saturn to it next spring from whatever Saturn growth I get this year.

Im not sure that buds on the saturn graft. What ever you do not loose that saturn graft. Have you considered moving this tree against a way and it becoming a fan

No espalier option unfortunately. Against my house the overhang of the roof extends far enough to shade the area in summer. Most areas away from my house are occupied.

It’s not the end of the world. I’ll keep the Saturn alive and tackle structure later

Thanks for the input.
