@Luisport, I bought these loquats recently in Paris, inspired by your pictures, but they are not sweet like apricots.
Hi. What variety are they? Most of this big varieties have bland flavor.
I don’t know, it’s at a fruit stand, they look ripe enough to me, but a bit sour.
Not a good variety… just big size.
You need to do the squeeze test to see if it was ripe. Many times the fruits will always be yellow or orange on the outside but may need another week before it is ripe. It is a pretty looking fruit though.
They were ripe, juicy, but still sour.
Oh no, now you got me worried about a new seedling variety that I got which has huge fruits. It looked ripe, but still was not sweet to me. I better go back and see if I can pick another ripe one in a week to make sure it’s not a sour loquat fruit. This new variety is as big as the Peluche and the entire tree has the large fruits hanging without thinning.
I think that variety looks like Algar so it’s bland and a bit acidic.
Hi. It’s a fruit related with papaya… I will report when I eat it. I’m very happy, it’s the first time I will try it. ![]()
Maybe acidic, not sweet, maybe not as sour as I described, but I thought I read it here that loquats taste as good as apricots, my Blenheim apricots are very tasty.
Not all loquats are like apricots… most of them are acidic.
White flesh loquats more acid taste than orange flesh. But both tastes excellent when fully ripe. Brix for a good tasting loquat would be 12-30. Typical Big Jim has a Brix of 12-14.
Just got a Red Zao Su Li tree…
