I believe mine is on St. Julien
I think they all come from one big commercial nursery that obtained the rights for distribution. I think it is the only rootstock used so far. That’s a plum rootstock right? So any plum should graft to it.
Yes, St. Julien is used extensively for plums, but I think it is also good for apricot.
Are you going to make into a salad tree?

We grafted apricot onto St Julian last year and are pleased so far with it. Cant speak to long term.
Where do you get your rootstock?
Ordered it from raintree last season.

They don’t seem to have any this year, well St Julian. Willimette has Lovell and
Myrobalan And cherry, apple and other rootstocks. Minimum order is 50 to 100 depending on size.

I just want to see if a sweet cherry like Van or Bing can be graft to the Nadia without any rejection. I have tried many times to graft the Bing cherry to the peach or plum tree and the scions took but a few months later they all died. I liked to experiment.

I grafted a donut (maybe Saturn) to apricot and it grew about 8 inches then died.
Krymsk might make a good interstem on Nadia… just going to have to throw a bunch of grafts on it and see what goes. If it can’t handle sweet cherry, i’ll be sad.

I am from Europe and St. Julien is used for apricots regularly here (nurseries not just home growers) so I think it’s risk free.

I’d bet strongly on rejection. The tree looks too much like a plum.

It’s phenotype may look like a plum, but if the patent is correct it’s genotype is only 50% plum.The cherry part has to be somewhere? I’m sure eventually the DNA will be looked at, and we will know exactly what it is.You can see in the fruit what looks like cherry from the top. It also looks like a plum from other angles, interesting combo.
I think the graft will tell us a lot, if it’s part cherry and does take, that would be good information. At this point it’s not known, it could mean a lot. For example if a cherry graft takes, that means we could possibly develop a dwarf plum-like fruit tree on Gisela (or any) dwarfing cherry rootstock. Maybe that’s why East Malling institute wants this cultivar for it’s breeding program?

If a peach I would 100% agree. All cherries are melting, some are firmer than others. In that context it makes sense. I don’t know enough about plums to describe all possible textures of various cultivars.
That reminds me Ed Laivo I think it was? He now works for 4 winds. Slipped out that Zaiger/DWN had a genetic dwarf plum. They never marketed it though?
They probably used all the St Julian they had to propagate Nadia do to the high demand.
I wanted to tell you when you ordered yours, they hold it. They ran out last year, I ordered early, although delivery here is in mid May. I got my tree, so you’re all set.
