Need recommendations for best tasting blackberry in 6b

Jen,

If you have not considered raspberries you might give those a try too.

I planted my first raspberries last year and got two “everbearing” varieties… Heritage (Red), Fall Gold (Gold), and planted them last spring and the started producing berries in Sept, and we got our last berries Dec 3. Fruit in the first year… and that was on the top 1/3 of the canes, and this summer, the lower portion is supposed to give us lots of berries… and then again in the fall, the new canes that come up this year, will give us a fall crop.

Now that is nice.

One Green World has a Everbearing Black Raspberry… Ohio’s Treasure Black Raspberry. Below is what they say about it… I am going to give those a try this year, to add to my raspberry collection.

Enjoy 2 crops with this delicious ever bearing Black Raspberry! Ohio’s Treasure Black Raspberry is a first generation Ever Bearing Black Raspberry, and will revolutionize the popularity of Black Raspberries by tripling the length of the harvest season.
Ripening Time : Late spring-early summer and August-October.

It says they are hardy to -20 so should work good for you.

Good Luck !

I am all for tripling the black raspberry season. I am in Ohio and I have some black raspberries but not the Treasure Black raspberry. Time for me to look for some plants.

i have ohio treasure. they survived -37f 3 years ago. tasty berry and good production. the jam is awesome! you will need to plant alot of them fairly close as they dont send out sprouts like reds do but they are very productive.

Steve, did you have to cover them in the winter? How late in the year did Ohio Treasure fruit?

Oh, I was thinking BlackBerry, but I see they are raspberries.
