There are several more plums (the Kuban plums from Russia are supposed to be fantastic) and apples (looking for some special flavors now) I’m likely to pick up before the winter is over, and I just joined the Schlabach’s mailing list, so I’m sure I’ll pick some stuff up from them. I’m certainly still interested in expanding my ribes varieties further.

This is the third round of outrageous volume, and the second-to-last.

I have one more area of my yarden to develop, and then I’ll be out of room…mostly. Heh.

My focus is shifting to propagation and breeding moving forward from there (my home nursery is steadily growing this year and next year I’m going next level), with purchases being far more targeted to fill specific needs.

Don’t EVEN get me started on seeds. Seriously.

nothing. I save seed and I found a home for another citrus tree

Nothing yet for me, but a endless wishlist that I’ve got to adjust to what returns I can get back to be able to get more, because I like my fruit growing hobby to fund itself:grin:.

Sunchoke: Clearwater

Honeyberry: Blue Typhoon, Blue Banana, Giant’s Heart.

Pawpaw: Kentucky Champion, Shenandoah, Free Bird.

If I’m lucky I may get some pawpaw scion wood for next year, I already have the rootstock ready.

Nothing confirmed yet but eyeing a quince and maybe a Moorpark apricot if I can find a decent supplier. Keep telling myself I have no more space.

Nothing here. Been busy picking up free pecans lately. 55 gallons so far. And we have not got half the nuts off the old home place we are working. Still have other places to do too.

Adding another Mt Royal (fake Valor).

Im not sure if many if any folks on here grow Burgundy Apple.. it will probably be an issue for me here but i want to try it.

Taste reports are cherry sweet tarts. It has made top ten lists of various folks on the social medias although they are in much colder climates.

Reports from various sources is that it is one of the better drying apples as well and red flesh appears along with flavors of raspberry.

Other reports are that it is very precocious as well as annual bearing. However it is reported to be not very resistant to much of any afflictions.

Nick also notes Jolly Rancher for those into the oddball flavors.

I always enjoy Nick’s videos.. as others have stated that there can be no grass or weeds for trees to produce.. Nick’s trees produce well without any signs of mowing..

I have made a few trades so far.. and will be getting some..

Rubyrush apple scion

Shelli mulberry scion

Hope to get some EU Plum scions of Stanley and Damson to add to my Mt Royal for pollination.

I plan to buy a Giboshi persimmon tree and a Kokuso mulberry and may buy a Jans Best mulberry.

I hope to trade some of my scionwood for more Bocking 14 comfrey and some hybrid plum scion (Pipestone, Waneta, Alderman).

Going to work my AU Rosa plum over to those 3 hybrid varieties. Much later bloom.

Hope to trade for some 100-46 (Lehmans delight) scion… And some H120 scion.

That should be about it.

Put in a Kokuso this year, and it’s quite happy. It’s also precocious, arriving with fruit on the tree, so I’m looking forward to next year.

Also, I took a few cuttings during a summer pruning and plopped them in a potting soil/garden soil blend I had lying around, and they’re all still alive 8 or so weeks later.

I’ve read they’re surprisingly easy to root cuttings from, and this is proving to be true.

Hall’s Beauty, Tayberry, and Northblue (blueberry). 3x Rubus leucodermis to plant on my hillside at some point. But other than that, no plans for anything else after that other than planting natives.

I’ve only bought:

1 Castleton European Plum

1 Long John European Plum

1 NY9 European Plum

1 Pozegaca European Plum

I was going to buy cherry plums from st Lawrence but they didn’t have them this year.

I plan to buy chestnuts and hazelnuts from Burntridge so I’ll probably add on that order some things also.

Before I order things I really need to figure out how many trees I’ll end up moving from the old house to the new one. There are only a few more spaces (mostly filling in spots where the tree didn’t transplant successfully in the spring) before I fill things up. At least if I don’t want to start squeezing things into places I didn’t plan to.

Right now, the plan is:

  • 4 figs along the house (LDA, Hardy Chicago, Strawberry Verte, and Adriatic JH)
  • 3 apples (2 Ashmead’s Kernel and a columular one with Kidds Orange Red on top)
  • A seedling peach from a rental that I grafted and budded in mid August. I’m more optimistic about the grafts, as at least one of them leafed out and grew.
  • A couple jujube suckers from a rental that I grafted with good varieties
  • A couple more jujubes from my old yard, but some are just too big to be worth moving
  • Several mulberries (a seedling grafted to Oscar for the front yard which grew 8+ feet after grafting in the spring), a Girardi, and a rootstock for me to make another Morus Nigra.
  • Several persimmons, though most will likely get planted at rentals

There are also lots of berries (blackberries, red and black raspberries) left. I doubt I’ll be able to move a lot of them. And will need to make some decisions about what is worth moving. Right now, Freedom primocane blackberry is at the top of my list. U just moved a dozen Anne yellow raspberries a few days ago.

I’m going to try to leave 3-5 good spots available for purchases this winter. Mostly for good nectarine or donut peach varieties.

the dorman red raspberry is the first thing you will cull.

What makes you say that?

Going to try a Quince this spring, been putting it off for years. Also eyeing a couple of European plums since my existing one is lonely. The free blueray thing is very tempting if it actually ships.
