How much was it there at Lowe’s?
$2.68 before taxes.
TY. I thought some of this type tape was very expensive. That is why I was asking.
Buddy tape for grafting is expensive but it is a bigger role.
Temflex rubber splice tape is cheap. If you cut it in half length-wise, it will even be cheaper as you double the length.
That budding tape was probably what I had seen that was so expensive. Good advice to cut in half. Saves money, I’m all for that.
I am still using the roll of Parafilm M that i bought perhaps 20 years ago. I keep it in a closet indoors, so it never gets super hot or supper cold. But I gotta say, the stuff seems to keep forever.
I use rubber grafting bands (also 20 years old) to tie the graft in place, and then cover everything with Parafilm. The buds easily grow through the film, and i never remove it. I do sometimes get a patch of unsightly… probably mildew, growing on the film. But it doesn’t seem to bother the tree any.
(The rubber bands disintegrate in about a year, despite being under the film.)
Nearly out of Temflex. Didn’t want to make the 20+ mile drive to the town with the Lowe’s store so found this in my local hardware and thought I would give it a try. More expensive than Temflex as this cost me $5.19 (without a longer drive). Surprisingly I like it maybe better than Temflex. Time will tell because I don’t know how well it degrades or not. It’s a bit thinner than Temflex, stretches well, and adheres to itself better than Temflex. It was the only roll they had so I don’t know if it’s a staple item. It’s made in Spain and distributed by some company here but you guys in Europe may find it easier than Temflex.
Have found it for $4.48 a roll shipped.
keep us updated, I think temflex is becoming a staple for many members. If this is even better, well then…
Here is what I’ve been using. Guessing the same as Temflex in a different package.
A determined Persimmon sprout can make it through.
No it’s not, that’s the good stuff.
i get Parafilm M 4inch wide roll. nearing the end of the 2e roll now.
Leave the end of the strips attached, for easy paper removal.
Cut the strips on a cutting mat/board with your grafting knife. Much easier/faster than scissors
I like the 4inch wide roll since it is a good length of strip if your cut it sideways. (4 inch)
And i can easily vary the wideness of the strips.
I usualy use between 1 and 3 strips 3/4 " wide. 1 is enough for the graft. but i do 1-2 extra so i don’t need anything else for structural support and to wrap the whole scion if doing W&T.
It might be just me. But seperating a whole “row” of parafilm from paper. Like on my photo. It’s quite satesfying
Comes down to a little over 1 cent a strip (0.01-0.03 $ per graft)
