Pear tree pruning in zone 7

Hi,
My pear tree has grown pretty large and entering I believe its 6th year. It bears a lot of fruit. It is tall (12 ft) should I prune the top down? If so how should I do it. Thank you

The important thing with pears is to not overreact when pruning. Apples i normally tip but i do shaping only when the tree is a baby not later Tipping to make a bushy more productive fruit tree .Pears will never have that beautiful apple tree shape. They can be shaped in many ways open center, tall spindle etc…Then finally you must ask yourself what you want to achieve. In my orchard i’m wanting to grow fruit not fight with the tree. The best way to keep a tree small and productive is to produce fruit. If you prune a pear heavy the pear will retaliate with less fruit and more growth.
When Pruning Pears theres a lot to learn - Brindilla, Tira savia, Chicken Paw to name a few terms
