Petit Gris de Rennes Melon

I wish you guys could smell this melon.

We only have one right now and I took it because the second one looked like something was eating the outer rind and then it just disappeared and then I saw a little nip in the bottom of this one so I picked it cause I’ll be darn if those little bastards can have it too.

My husband said it smells like a sexy perfume, so I don’t think I will leave him alone with it. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I think we’ll try to build a freestanding trellis to throw twine over and put melons in a warmer spot next year.

Can I save seeds or is it likely that it got mixed with something? We do have cucumbers and also watermelon.

I’ll post how it tastes. I was thinking we could put vanilla bean ice cream in the middle for an extravagant dessert.

I’ll take the seeds if you don’t want them
Since Petit Gris de Rennes is a Cucumis melo and most cucumbers are Cucumis sativus and watermelon is Citrullus lanatus, you should be fairly safe.

Also since Petit Gris de Rennes is an heirloom variety, I think it should grow relatively true to seed. I’m no expert though!

I need to keep seeds, but I have enough to share even out of just this one melon.

I will mail you some seeds if you want to send me your address.

I was bummed about the damaged one because I was figuring it would be good for seeds at least but there is enough in the one we got to eat.
