PiqaBoo is a new pear that combines attributes of European and Asian pears
(Prevar Limited)
The New Zealand company Prevar is looking for orchardists in North America who would like to grow new Piqa brand pear varieties developed in New Zealand. Prevar commercializes fruit varieties bred by Plant and Food Research.
Piqa Boo (PremP009 cultivar) is a red pear that combines characteristics of European, Japanese, and Chinese pears. Prevar has licensed the Freshmax Group to produce the new fruit in Australia.
Prevar has also licensed World Wide Fruit UK to market Piqa brand fruits in the United Kingdom. Small quantities of Piqa Reo, a shortened, conventional pyriform fruit with a yellow-green color and light orange-red blush, will be available in 2015, with further commercial selections to follow.
Prevar has hired Dawn Gray Global Consulting to identify potential growers and partners in the United States and Canada.
