Does anyone prune their established apple trees in the fall? Why I ask is this year I had no fruit at all in any of my fruit trees. Since the leaves are starting to come off this autumn I have noticed a lot of sucker branches that grew this summer. I have never had this many sucker branches grow in one year. Probably because of them not having fruit and going into self preservation of putting out more branches and blossoms next spring. Just my guess.
I was thinking of pruning the suckers off the branches this fall to save time and not having to do it in the colder weather in the late winter or early spring.
Good idea or a bad idea?
