Anyone know when Lowes gets their second round of fruit trees in stock?

This is entirely dependent on your location, due to a myrid of factors. For example, our Lowe’s always has fruit trees, with a range from apples to soursops, depending on the time of year.

Mid Atlantic area.

Wondering when you would recommend pulling up weed mat under apple/pear trees? Trees were planted out in fall 2022, some whips, others 2-3 year old potted trees. Trees are in an old field that is not manicured.

Just don’t want the roots to stay under the mat forever and not spread out further in search of moisture due to better conditions under the mat. I used this for weed mat. (I would re-use mats for whips I am currently growing)

if your trees are relatively established id move them. by time the grass starts to grow under there the shade canopy should slow it.

Are Spice Zee Nectaplum, Splash, Emerald Drop, or Sweet Treat scions available anywhere? I think they’re all off patent at this point?

I may have Spice Zee,Splash and Emerald Drop, early next year.

If I plant some peppers mid-August, do you think they would fruit by Christmas, weather permitting? I have some seeds that I want to start, but if I have to overwinter anyways, I can start them later and keep them in the greenhouse.

The specific varieties are Cherry, Miniature Chocolate, Biquinho, and maybe Zavory, which are all smallish peppers, if that helps.

Is this sun burn or some type of disease? Korean Giant Asian pear foliage. Gets adequate drip irrigation 2x a week.

Last time I had this it was Pear Psylla. Almost impossible to see. I had to use 30x mag. glass to look at thejunction of the leaf and stem

Thanks Mike. I’ve been spraying the new Sevin insecticide (zeta-cypermethrin) consistently so I didn’t think it would be an insect issue. Now I need to investigate further to see if this is the root cause.

Does Peach graft to Myrobalan? I’ve seen mixed reports on compatibility.

Only selected varieties with good affinity are used for peaches in very heavy soils.

Can anyone tell me why two scions, from the same source, will behave completely differently when grafted to 2 different trees?
Oddly enough, Keepsake is large, grafted to a B9 King David . . . and rather puny when grafted to M7 Goldrush and Ashmead’s Kernel.
Huge apple on the little B9 . . . so strange.

Just as the root stock effects the size of the mature tree, the other varieties are in a sense acting as a root stock and imparting vigor characteristics on the scion.

How would you protect pawpaw fruit from deer in an area where I cant put a fence? Bag the fruit? Spray some deterrent on them? The deer will eat all of the fruit before it softens any.

They are wild ones, but I never have gotten a taste of a tree ripened fruit, theres a whole lot in the patch that I would hate to just let all the deer have them.

That’s interesting. Pawpaw is the one thing that my deer never bother. They don’t nibble on the leaves or twigs and I have not noticed them eating the fruit. My pawpaws are in an open field with tall grass and herds of deer bed down in the grass all around them.
I will say, though, that my fruit is mostly above the 4-5 foot high level on the tree so the deer can’t reach them. I am not sure what would work best to deter them, but hopefully your trees will be tall enough soon that they can’t reach the fruit, although pawpaws sure seem to be slow growers!

They are in the timber, but every year I check them and they look like they are getting maybe close to starting to ripen, then I check them the next day and bam there are deer tracks everywhere no pawpaws left in the trees with just a few on the ground that are green. I try ripening them on the windowsill, but I can tell they don’t ripen like they should.
