Thank you for the recommendations. The tiny whip is exactly what I got the only time I gambled ok n a mail order, so that’s a good tip about stark.
Speaking of Stark Bros. They are now offering trees that bear 2 years sooner…for a huge price of $199. Seven gallon grow bag trees of selected varieties. Free shipping.
Their prices are insane. Bob wells has the same size trees in five gallon pots for $45.

Can anybanybody identify this bug on my citrus. Northern california zone 9b. They are so tiny i thought it was dust until i realized they were in motion. Google lens has been no help. Thanks in advance.
Possibly fig wasps?
Ill look it up. That would be wild! They do look like a wasp! Thanks ![]()
Wow that is a fun site! Thank You.
Will sweet potatoes hybridize with wild morning glories? There were morning glories growing in with the sweet potatoes, and the sweet potatoes were blooming like mad.
Sometimes having a similar plant nearby can make other plants of the same species compete therefore, increasing blooms and such. More and more scientific research is coming out that concludes they can see us
and their surroundings.
Unless you save the seeds and cross pollinate, probably not. Most tubers restart via tuber sprouts and not seeds so you should be good overall unless you decide to grow from seed.
I was thinking would the morning glory seeds be hybrid? Because they are weeds in the garden.
Probably not. Sweet potato are hexaploid and most morning glories are diploid or tetraploid
So, my asian pears are dropping their leaves rapidly. It’s cold currently, but it looks like we have some warm days still on tap. My question is will the fruits still continue to ripen on the tree after the leaves have all fallen, or should I just pick them all now? I don’t think the temperature will be so cold that the fruit is damaged in the next week or two.
@EliindaUP
They will continue to ripen at a slower rate. Usually, by the time Asian pears dropped their leaves, fruit have ripened. If you have several fruit, pick one and cut it up. Dark brown or black seeds indicate ripened fruit.
I have too many Korean Giant on the trees, leaves are 50%-60% gone. Those fruit have ripened. I don’t have time to pick or space to store them so I let them hang on the tree.
Thanks! I will leave them on the trees then, until I see a damaging night in the forecast. Most of mine do seem to be ripe. But there are some Olympic Giants that have not turned golden yet
Some that don’t face tge sun may stay greenish when ripen. Fully ripen KG may lose its crunchiness. I personally think almost ripened KG are as good or even better.
I am at least a zone and a half warmer than where you are. However, if your tree is in full sun, it is an advantage. As long as you Asian pears loses their starchiness, they are good to eat.
My dad and I were just in the orchard picking some in the starlight, and we came to the same conclusion. They are tastier when green but ripe.
After you pick them, keeping them in a closed plastic bag (no holes) in a fridge. It will stay fresh for weeks.
Leave them at room temp on a counter. They will lose crunchiness after a few days.
Don’t let it over ripens. It turns soft and loses crunching. The more ripe it is , the shorter the storage life. I picked mine in early October this year.
