Venus is the more common variety.
What’s the best supplies for air layering? Where can I find the most trustworthy information for trying it this year?
There are plastic clamshell air layering pods you can buy online, they are nice
Scrape the bark a little bit and maybe add some rooting hormone
Get your soil to the proper moisture level and then add it to the pod and attach to the tree
Cover with aluminum foil to prevent light from getting in
Keep moist over the next several months
When removing also prune back most of the top to keep it more equivalent to the amount of roots it has now
I just tried air-layering last year after checking what information the Web provided, and it worked very well on grapes. I girdled the stem completely where I wanted the roots to form and used a mixture of sphagnum moss and peat around the stem, held in place by clear plastic secured with wire ties. The stem beyond the layering point was pruned back to just a few leaves, and I used rooting hormone.
I have a Tulameen raspberry in a pot. I meant to plant it out, but never got round to it. One thing led to another and now it has rooted out trough the drainage holes and formed a nice little patch. I like it! I plan to repeat this unconventional propagation method. For this i want to sever the roots under the pot and move the pot to another place where a raspberry patch would be nice. When would be the best time for this?
Can you graft on new, green not yet hardened growth for loquats?
Anytime before 1.5 months before a cold and rainy season in my opinion. You can dig a little bit in your new area and stick the pot in it to speed up the new patch growth. The extra 1.5 months of root growth will help the new patch establish before it gets too cold for root stuff. This is just all what i would do if i were to do that though. Others may have other opinions based on experience that may differ from mine
If there is growth beyond the union id strip the buds from below the graft and rewrap that. It doesn’t look like its scarred over enough yet. Ill try to remember to take a picture of one of my grafts from this year that barely made it. You can see where the cambium joined/healed vs where it didn’t.
Thanks for your input. I was wondering if replanting in dormancy or during the growing season would be better for the plant. I like your suggestion to move it in fall, should definitely be more gentle on the plant than now in the heat. Additionally, this gives me time to consider where the best place would be…
Is it really that easy to grow peach trees from seeds?
A lady at a farmers market not too far from my house told me she just started getting peaches from the grocery store, saving the seeds and growing peach trees . She had more luck with growing peach trees in her back yard that way than buying them in a nursery.
I have did a little research and I know it is possible to grow a peach tree from seed ,
Just wondering, am I wasting my time saving every peach seed I can to give it a try during the spring ?
Yes actually, one of the very few fruits where that is true

I’ve grown them from seed. Most of the time the fruit is smaller, but they still taste good. If you have the space it’s a fun project and if you get a dud you can always graft it over. I’ve got a bunch of them out there now that I intend to use as rootstock.
my partner plants ever seed from every fruit he eats, he’s a maniac
the peaches are starting to come up now from what he threw in the dirt a month or two ago. I assume that we will just have peach trees battling in that patch of ground because he keeps throwing them in the same area and they’re all real close together.
I think if we had room for full sized peach trees it would be a good way to get some relatively easy fruit going.
So I’ve been happy with my triple crown blackberry production so far but many of the route berries have dried up groups of drupelets I believe they’re called (picture decisions). There are also some fruit which are completely brown like the patches. Any have an idea what it is and what I should do about it?
