I’ve “discovered” a red skinned pear growing not far from my place. I need to find the owner of the property to ask about taking a scion next winter. Does anybody have any guesses as to what type of pear this could be? Looks like they are large(ish) fruits
I’m not sure when winter comes there but you might be able to tbud the tree.

I suck at t-budding. I’ve had limited success with apples and none with pears. Winter usually shows up here around the first or second week of November. Average first frost date is in about 5 weeks I think.

Is it ripe now? Starkrimson is an early red pear.

I don’t know if they’re ripe now. I will continue to keep an eye on the tree and see if the fruit get harvested and/or begin to drop. Starkrimson is one of the few options I came up with while searching. I’ve yet to find a red skin pear rated to zone 4a however, perhaps the tree’s owners just rolled the dice and got lucky
