Does anyone know if the Clem x Yuzu that Madison sells is 2-2 or 3-3? This would have been figured out by trial and error/if there are any growing differences and you have both. I thought I had confirmed this last year, but apparently not and now they say it’s just “clem x yuzu” and not listed as either. As in, they don’t know.
Adding that I did a quick internet search and Google AI says the Clem x yuzu registered in state certification records is 2-2, but I don’t know how it figured that out.

Don’t have direct experience with Carolina lime - been meaning to get one - but just based on reported parentage (F2 trifoliata cross with mandarins - perhaps changsha and/or clementine) I would guess it’s going to be one that maintains dormancy pretty well.

I was just corresponding with Tom McClendon on this and his take was that everything he has seen in trade is 2-2. I was asking specifically with reference to Stan McKenzie’s plants but Tom’s response was that he had never been able to track down a 3-3, except maybe from a personal friend of Dr Brown’s in Texas, but the identity of that one was still to be determined. And I’m sure Tom knows Madison.
I only have one clem-yuzu, which came from Stan years ago, and generally agree that it is more akin to the description of 2,2 in Citrus for the Gulf Coast and Hardy Citrus for the Southeast, except that I don’t recall it ripening as early as October for me - although maybe I just never tried it that early.

I hadn’t been terribly impressed by Ten Degree Tangerine (Clem-yuzu 2,2, from Stan) over the decade or so I’ve had it - a bit skunky - but after this discussion and revisiting the descriptions of it ripening in October, I tried one today (late Sept) and I think I’ve been harvesting most of them too late. Still absolutely green this one tasted like a decent lemonade.

im going to toss some trifoliate orange and flying dragon seedlings in the ground here in z5, would potted seedlings make it in my over winter fig chamber? i think that got down to 0F briefly last winter but id have to check on that. i didnt lose any of my potted figs that grew all season. i did lose a few that were freshly rooted late summer.
