Id wondered why he had grown quiet in the last 6 months. Powell Gammill who was known on the Dave Wilson forums, old Gardenweb, and here as FascistNation has passed away at the age of 59.
Powell and I never really got along well. Opinionated people rarely do. I attended one talk he gave at the Arizona Rare Fruit Growers in which he kept on exclaiming “but those damn farmers” do this and that to ruin our fruit! I wanted to punch the man in the nose on that occasion. lol But I did respect Powell. He believed in his message. He wanted to do good by everyone he talked to. Rest in peace.
His passing is a loss to many. I can’t recall seeing a post from him on any horticulture related forum that wasn’t intelligent, insightful and helpful. I’ve always gained something from reading his posts. Powell Gammill, as FascistNation, will be greatly missed. His helpful online replies will continue to benefit those searching for information.
All I know about Powell is what he presented on various forums. I found him knowledgeable and very willing to help. He always posted lots of links. He will be missed.
I’m opinionated too, although we never got angry at each other, Wow, this is really sad news. Damn! My age too, I will miss him, he was a great researcher too, always helped people if he could. He was a lab rat like myself too, except a lot more accomplished than me. His political views reflect my own too. We lost a good one!
Thanks for letting us know. Today is a sad day. Could somebody post something on the Dave Wilson site about this? He was most active there.
That is very sad news. I think when I am grafting an old or obscure variety that I am preserving a piece of a tree that has long since passed, a part of him will be preserved in this forum in the same way.
I definitely found Fascist to be a different kind of person and very interesting too! His sentences were always short but to the point. I will definitely miss him. And we just emailed each other three days ago. Loved his avatar!
Eric, thanks for letting us know and sharing the article. Very sad to see us lose a valuable list member. He was quite brilliant and provided a lot of knowledgeable and well-researched information across several gardening forums. I didn’t realize he was so young, and to go so early in life. He will be missed.
Energy cannot be destroyed it just changes form. Some of the energy that was him was converted to and imparted to us as knowlege which is a very robust type of energy.
had no idea the two posters were actually the same person. I thought i saw him post just a couple of days ago over at phxpermaculture.
will miss his coach-popovich posts, no doubt.
