Scion-exchange.com

There is a pretty good site thats been mentioned in another thread, but i figured id pull it out here for all to see.
Seems like a great site, such as this, but geared toward trading scions instead of just a forum. Check it out, looks like the growingfruit.org crowd could really push this site to new levels.

And @fruit-enthusiast is the admin/operator, said they are open to suggestions for cultivars and varieties to add, but will need descriptions of each cultivar you’re requesting.

I suggested avocados, personally, but we each have our own obsessions!

I really hope this community can give this website the boost it needs. I have high hopes! I believe the idea is there, just needs users.

Ive only been on for about 3 hours and already have found a trading partner for a variety that i couldnt seem to get from anyone here. Looks like the people here could benefit the people there and vise versa.

I totally agree. It doesn’t seem like it has gotten a critical mass of users yet but I love the idea of having a central hub for scionwood trading rather than 50 different places to go to ask around.

Can someone (from scion-exchange) in Canada send me scions in USA? She says she doesn’t think it is legal to send me that scion I need.:scream: I thought I read somewhere that apple scions were okay, and only live plants must have disease-free certificate. (?)

I have some varieties that aren’t listed. Is there a way to add them to the have list,on the site?

On the Dashboard page, at very bottom, Support and feature requests link takes you to contact/message page to send message with your list (maybe)???

The American USDA has forbid a lot of plants/plant parts from coming in to the USA unless it’s actual food. It’s best to contact the USDA and ask them, preferably local contact.

this is a great site and I’m sure I’ll use it next year. I have a few nice matches already but mostly for things of mine that need to grow first. only suggestion is to add a spot for US patent expiration time. I’m not the patent police but I casually noticed one still US patented while browsing and if it’s a US-centric site it’s easy enough to head off those problems or any confusion with another field or spot for a note

I think this site is great. The numbers of members is growing, and I’ve have been able to make trades with 2 other members in just a few days. I recommend this site to all members here, it really can help just about everyone out!

Is anything done on that site to prevent exchange of patented varieties?

There is a disclaimer posted that the site doesnt condone the propagation of patented materials. It would be no different than this site, as there is now way for Scott or the admin to know exactly what is exchanged. That would be between the parties involved. I guess it is the same as anything else in this world, expecting people to be honest and do what is right.

makes sense to me.
