Seed Starting and Seedling Setup

I just wanted to share my experience with the equipment that I have chosen.

I bought seed starting trays from Neversink Farm, and then got the pepper geek kit made by Bootstrap Farmer to up-pot to.

Both are made in the USA.

At the time Neversink did not have a pot set up that would work for me, but I’m actually glad that I bought my pepper geek sets because both have 18 pots per 1020 tray but the pepper geek set has taller/wider pots so you can leave the seedlings in them a little longer if need be. I will say I admire the insert that holds the pots for Neversink much better than the Bootstrap Farmer one though, looks like theirs has legs.

My husband came up with a great idea to use sleeves inside the Neversink trays, and this has proven useful because I can take out ones that have sprouted and leave the ones that have not in our sprouting box. That is much easier than trying to transplant a brand new seedling.

Here is a picture of what I’m talking about using sleeves inside the trays.

Just a note, though, that the sleeves only fit in the large cell sized seedling trays.

And also the sleeves were created by cutting a 1020 tray sized of the thinner seed starting plug trays into individual cells.

I like the mini wini trays over the full 1020 sized as they’re easier to maneuver for me.
