Seedling Pic

My husband planted seeds from a cosmic crisp apple, isn’t this seedling cute, all dressed up in fall colors?

It that trait continues over several years, you may have a ‘front yard’ landscape tree, that bears nice apples. Give it a chance.

Out of the seeds that sprouted, it’s the only one showing fall colors that also is standing straight up.

The others still have green leaves and not standing up straight yet.

Our little tiny seedlings also survived a sudden drop to 25f. That surprised me.

What also surprised me is that my 8 citrus trees were okay. My citrus are all baby trees. The Australian finger lime had a little die back on new growth but nothing drastic.

And our avocados were okay too, they were under a plastic dome, but the front of the dome was open.

We don’t need landscape trees, we live in a forest.

We are surrounded by pines, firs and cedars.

You should see it after it snows and there is a full moon. There is an ethereal blue light that makes the snow sparkle like it’s made out of diamond dust and the trees looked like flocked Christmas trees.

I half expect fairies to fly by.

We do intend to try to keep all the seedlings alive and hope for the best.

A wonderful visual you have conjured up. Sometimes photos just don’t seem to capture the magic of the moment so we are left with the memories in our minds eye.

I see you’re listed in zone 8…but you get lot of fluffy precipitation?

We are at 4200 elevation and get snow. If that what you are referring to, snow?

Sounds really lovely. So you typically don’t go under 10 F all year?

That is correct. We typically don’t go below 10f. It gets warm in summer, but not triple digits like in the valley.

Last year was horrific and we ran out of wood to keep warm. Seems like winter lasted forever. We had snow starting November 1. But it also snowed in Redding, which is unusual happens every four years or so I heard.

This year it’s already the 18th and right now it’s pouring rain. It’s been raining for a few days, but no snow yet.

I have tried to take pictures, but I just can’t capture the sparkle in the snow. Maybe professional photography equipment could.

I wish I had the money to invest in professional photography equipment, but I spent all my money on fruit trees.

Here is my lychee seedlings.

This one is surround by the four leaf clover. The moth worm ate the top and one of the leaf. Maybe not so lucky lychee.

My other lychee seedling.

Adorable little seedlings!

@smilemore … your clover lookalike… is actually yellow woodsorrell… it is a quite tasty wild edible, sharp lemony taste. Yellow flowers when it blooms.

Thought I’d add a cute seedling. This came up in a mixed community pot for a few interspecies stonefruit hybrids I liked from the local farmers market last year. The cotyledon stayed underground for all the other ones in the pot, but I’m glad this one didn’t since it’s so pretty.

I am having fun watching the persimmons push. They have to work so hard to detach from the shell.
