Has anyone shipped ripe apples, via mail or UPS? I’m guessing if well packed with insulaltion they should do OK but I haven’t done it so was wondering about others experience. Thankfully these don’t have to go far but I do want them to arrive in good shape. Thanks! Sue
I was wondering the same thing. I want to ship apples to a place about an hour away. So I though of shipping some as well.
I have shipped feijoas all over the place from Alaska to Arizona for the past 10 years
via USPS Priority Mail, mostly in Flat Rate boxes, fruit has always arrived in fine shape.
2-3 days most areas; 4 days rural areas. I ship on Monday-Tuesday to avoid the weekends.
You can get multiple pounds of fruit into a Medium Flat Rate Box.
Shipping apples is fine. You don’t need much insulation. There are multiple ways to pack from lasagna layering to individual wrapping. Apples, pears, persimmon (when still hard) are all very forgiving to ship. You can use ground shipping, priority mail, it should be all ok.
The only fruit that are perhaps more time sensitive are the berries, grapes, pawpaw, softened persimmon, peaches, cherries, , and other stone fruit. Pawpaws and softened persimmon are in particular are very very unforgiving to ship. Not just because they both bruise very easily, but due to timing issues.
