This is an interesting limb mutation of Starking. A dwarfing tree that has a strong dwarfing effect on scions and delays flowering Quite a bit. It also made small versions of Starking style apples. But it’s real claim to fame was it is very compatible with Pears. And was used by Dr . Ethan A. Natelson quite a bit in a better rootstock for pears.
The patent holder was McCormick’s Fruit Tree Co. Inc., Bountiful Ridge Nurseries, Inc. of Washington State in 1982. I see they seem defunct. But BHL catalog archives shows they were a major nursery all through the 1900’s to at least the 1970’s.
Anyone with info on any of these would be appreciated.
